Rodeo highlights popular small-town Santaquin festivities
Small town rodeo arena on a summer night, lawn seating and professional cowboys and cowgirls. Santaquin’s Orchard Days Rodeo has a unique setting and great entertainment.
“I love that we have a very unique arena,” said Amy Johnson, program/events manager for Santaquin recreation.
The arena is a grass bowl, so most attendees bring blankets and sit on the grass, though there are some bleacher seats available at the top of the bowl, she said. The performance area itself is a regular rodeo arena — the same size as the Spanish Fork arena.
“It’s a really good rodeo,” she said. “We’re able to hold a pro rodeo, but yet it still feels very small town.”
The rodeo is part of the Rocky Mountain Pro Rodeo Association, which has events all over Utah — in places like Mt. Pleasant, Alpine, Manti and Castle Dale — Idaho and Nevada.
The rodeo is on the last night of the week-long Orchard Days celebration, starting at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 6. The city lights off fireworks following the rodeo.
Other events of Orchard Days include a BuckARoo Rodeo, home run derbies, baby show, piano festival, cherry pit spit, horseshoe tournament and boutique.
Johnson said Saturday is the big day of the festival with the most events, and the day most people attend.
“It’s really nice to come out,” she said. “It still has a small-town feel.”
