Lehi Round-Up: Laser tag, skate competition added to complement standbys like rodeo

By Katie England daily Herald - | Jun 16, 2017

Those who have been attending Lehi Round-Up for many years will be happy to know that old standbys like the three-day rodeo, $5 barbecue and grand parade are still an integral part of the city celebration.

But a few new events are also being added in order to provide activities for a larger range of people.

“A lot of (Lehi Round-Up) is geared toward families,” said Melanie Hansen, special event coordinator for Lehi. “We were just trying to look at different demographics who hadn’t had an event geared toward them and get them involved as well.”

One new event, the laser tag competition taking place on Friday, June 23, was included specifically for teenagers, Hansen said.

Bingo is another event added this year, also on Friday, and is meant to appeal to an older crowd.

“The main thing we are trying to do is make sure that we are doing events so everyone is included,” Hansen said. “We like having the traditional events, but try to add new ones so that everyone can feel this is their city event. The biggest thing is making sure everyone knows this is for them.”

One other new event was made possible by the brand-new Lehi Skate Park, which just celebrated its grand opening ceremony May 19.

The city’s first skateboard competition will be held Wednesday, June 21, and Hansen is hoping it draws a crowd.

“I think (this year’s Round-Up) will be big,” Hansen said. “Especially the skateboard competition. We usually have at least a thousand people at every event.”

Many people look forward to Round-Up every year, just like Christmas, Hansen said, and this year’s festivities shouldn’t disappoint.

“We are really excited for Round-Up this year,” Hansen said. “There will be a lot of fun activities, and I hope people come out to be a part of their city celebration.”

Lehi Round-Up will take place June 17 through June 25. The full schedule of events can be found at lehi-ut.gov/roundup/scheduleofevents.
