Phasers were set to “tag” as teenagers and younger children enjoyed an energetic game of laser tag Friday afternoon at Margaret Wines Park as part of Lehi’s week-long Round-Up celebration.

“We let as many people play as we can, and they get to just shoot each other and have a great time,” said Alex Burhoe, manager of Tactical Action Games.

“It’s always entertaining to watch. I love just watching the kids running around, getting really into it, and sprinting as hard as they can — it’s funny,” explained Burhoe with a smile.

Many of the festival’s events cater to young children, adults and families, and laser tag was introduced as part of an effort to give teenagers some events of their own.

“It’s our first time doing it,” said Melanie Hansen, events coordinator for Lehi city. “We were thinking of a way to get more activities for teenagers. It’s been great. They seem to be really enjoying themselves.”

Though laser tag gave teens a chance to let loose tagging one another, many other events have taken place since the festival’s start on Monday, and there’s more yet to come before its close on Saturday.

“Every day, pretty much all day, there’s different activities,” explained Hansen.

In addition to laser tag, Friday featured the Round-Up Market, bingo, a miniature parade and a rodeo, which takes place on Thursday, Friday and Saturday night.

Saturday will see a family-fun day, the grand parade and the finale of the rodeo.

“Lehi is such a family-centered community,” Hansen said. “It’s nice for people to come out, there’s free events, and it’s a good tradition. It’s important to make everyone feel involved, that this is their city and that they’re able to come out and enjoy each other’s company.”

Starting at $4.32/week.
