Here’s the beef: Four places to lay your hands on a great hamburger

By Natalie Hollingshead - Daily Herald - | Jul 4, 2007

Beef — it’s what’s for dinner, especially if you’ve decided to dine out.

Utah County can be considered a carnivorous community, as burger joints and drive-ins abound. Here are four restaurants whose meaty menus are filled with burgers you can really sink your teeth into (canine’s and all).

Glade’s Drive-Inn

This Spanish Fork establishment has been a neighborhood tradition since 1954. Made famous by its unique white fry sauce (most Utahns are familiar with the pink-colored variety), people go to Glade’s for the fries, but they stay for the burgers. For dessert, hit up the shaved ice stand across the street.

CLOSED: Chadders

Although it may be a new kid on the block, this American Fork burger joint has already developed an impressive local following. The restaurant’s no-nonsense menu has only a handful of burger options — single, double or with cheese — with simple sides of shoestring french fries and milkshakes. Even though the burgers aren’t fancy, they are tasty — hence the droves of people that flock to Chadders. Lines are out the doors most of the day, and cars pile up in the drive-thru, too.

Red Robin

OK, we know this is a chain restaurant. But don’t hold that against us. Red Robin boasts an array of “World Famous” burgers, guaranteed to please the pickiest of diners. There are gourmet burgers, like the Guacamole Bacon Burger, Whiskey River BBQ Burger and Sauteed ‘Shroom Burger. There also are adventuresome burgers made from fish, pork or turkey. If the burgers aren’t enough to lure you down, Red Robin also offers free refills on steak fries.

Burgers Supreme

The name of this restaurant pretty much says it all. Burgers Supreme specializes in made-to-order burgers, but also offers Greek food in case you would like a side of souvlaki with that. The Western Bacon Cheeseburger is a local favorite, a quarter-pound patty layered with barbecue sauce, onion rings, cheese and bacon. Less artery-clogging options also are available.
