Food Review: Royal reception awaits you at Chinese restaurant in Lehi
Lehi has limited options for Chinese food that’s not from a chain restaurant. Fortunately for Lehi, however, Rice King Express is one of them.
Rice King offers a long menu of traditional Chinese selections, including lo mein, chow mein, rice dishes, noodle dishes, moo shu and several meat and seafood items. There are plenty of options for everyone, and the menu even features a few vegetarian selections.
We were most impressed with the amount and variety of vegetables in our dishes. We liked the Four Seasons dish, with shrimp, beef, chicken, pork and vegetables in a light sauce. There was much more than just cabbage and onions, and the carrots, peas, broccoli and mushrooms added nice color and texture.
Same story for the Chicken with Deluxe Vegetable. The chicken was white meat and was tender and flavorful, but we appreciated feeling like it was a complete meal with all the vegetables and rice.
We also tried the General Chicken which, despite the warning on the menu, was not hot and spicy. The batter was thin and flavorful and the sauce was slightly sweet. The House Special Chow Mein was also enjoyable.
Rice King delivers for $1 to a limited area. But despite the “express” in the restaurant’s name, Rice King offers more than takeout. There is a small dining area with about half a dozen tables. The dine-in nook is simple, but quiet and accommodating. We ordered at a counter and a server brought out our meals on beautiful oval plates. Drinks and utensils are self service. There was even a high chair and a booster available for parents with young children.
Most main dishes are between $6 and $8, but you can also get a limited number of dishes as combination specials, with an Egg Roll and Ham Fried Rice, for $5.75. There are also dinner specials for two ($16.99), three ($23.99) and four ($32.95).
But if you’re like us, then you’ll enjoy having Chinese food with more than just meat. Remember, as our fortune cookie at Rice King told us, “A healthy way of living is be good to your health.” That’s easier to understand than the food pyramid.
