Domino’s Stuffed Cheesy Bread is exactly what it sounds like

By Ken Hoffman - | Dec 8, 2011

This week I reached out for a new Stuffed Cheesy Bread from the world’s No. 2 pizza slinger, Domino’s, with 9,541 restaurants across the U.S. and around this crazy blue marble.

Stuffed Cheesy Bread is basically Domino’s plain old Cheesy Bread … with even more cheese. More cheese! More cheese! More cheese!

Ladies and gentleman, the world now throws up its hands and surrenders to fast food’s diabolical plot to pack and hide more cheese in anything that can be delivered to your front door. The only thing left would be for the UPS man to hurl a 500-pound wheel of cheddar through your window with a ransom note attached to it.

Here’s the Stuffed Cheesy Bread blueprint: bread stuffed with cheese, with more cheese layered on top. Stuffed Cheesy Bread comes in three varieties: Cheese Only, Spinach and Feta, and Bacon and Jalapeno. The easy play here is Bacon and Jalapeno.

Total calories: 160 per piece. Fat grams: 7. Carbs: 17 g. Sodium: 350 mg. Dietary fiber: 2 g. Manufacturer’s suggested retail price: $5.99.

The big difference between Stuffed Cheesy Bread and a calzone is the sauce. Stuffed Cheesy Bread is, as a nutty old football coach would say, “Just what we thought it was” — simply bread and cheese. A calzone is loaded with sauce and other goodies. A calzone is a folded-over pizza that stays hotter longer. Calzones need a better PR company. They should own a larger share of the pizza market.

Domino’s Stuffed Cheesy Bread is crammed tight with a mozzarella-and-cheddar combo. The Spinach and Feta and Bacon and Jalapeno have some bonus extras for flavor, variety and texture.

There’s really no secret to how Domino’s stuffs its Stuffed Cheesy Bread. A pizza technician super-flattens Domino’s standard-issue Hand Tossed dough, piles on the same amount of cheese as a medium pizza, and folds Point A to Point B. A generous sprinkling of Romano cheese, garlic and parsley goes on top, and it’s baked in Domino’s conveyor-belt oven. Voila! You’ve got a calzone minus the sauce.

Domino’s throws in a cup of garlic or marinara sauce just to throw us off our game. Stuffed Cheesy Bread is partially sliced into eight pull-apart pieces. The whole idea of Stuffed Cheesy Bread makes sense, and it’s pretty darn delicious. I give it a solid A-minus. I’d give it an A-plus, but it’s too early in the school year for pity grades.

Starting at $4.32/week.
