Woo hue! Get pigment-y with it at these colorful dining options
Blue Lemon
First opened in Highland, this restaurant offering “pure, clean food with a twist” has since added locations in Salt Lake and Cottonwood Heights. We love its sweet potato fries, butternut squash soup, Fiery Fish Tacos and the Chipotle Pineapple BBQ pulled beef sandwich. The restaurant also has an on-site bakery, catering menu and cooking classes to round out its culinary offerings.

Purple Turtle
This 44-year-old burger joint is such a North County fixture that people often use it as a landmark to give directions (as in: Turn right at the Purple Turtle on State Street to get to Cedar Hills). Whether you choose one of 60 shake flavors (think caramel and grasshopper), fish and chips or the Turtle Deluxe Burger (1/4-pound patty, pastrami, Swiss Cheese), you won’t leave hungry.
85 E. State St., Pleasant Grove, (801) 785-2444
Red Mango
There are only a handful of flavors and toppings at Red Mango (as opposed to Orange Leaf, where the very-delicious combinations seem almost endless). Instead, Red Mango focuses on quality: Its yogurt is nonfat, kosher, gluten-free and made with probiotics. With flavors like ginger, white peach and pomegranate, Red Mango’s yogurt is a cool treat for a hot summer afternoon.

Black Jack Pizza
Black Jack Pizza is tasty, well-priced and, because of its proximity to the Herald offices, a staple on election night and at company parties. You can go for Black Jack’s Good Deal, made with sausage, pepperoni, onions, green pepper and mushrooms, or hit the Jackpot, which has the additional toppings of ground beef, ham, green and black olives, and extra cheese. There are also vegetarian, Southwest, Mediterranean and Western (barbecue chicken) pizzas.

Green Panda Cafe
This small restaurant opened last summer and is already getting plenty of buzz for its freshly made, affordable Asian fare. Order at the counter, then choose from an assortment of Taiwanese and Chinese dishes. Some of the Chinese dishes are Americanized favorites such as orange, sesame and sweet and sour chicken. But the restaurant also has authentic Taiwanese fare such as Mapo Tofu and Chicken Fried Noodles with Shacha (a gritty, spicy sauce).
