BK really outdoes itself with Cinnabon Minibons
This week I reached out for a Cinnabon Minibon Roll, new at the No. 2 burger chain, Burger King, with 12,500 restaurants around this wacky world.
Cinnamon … anything, from a bun to ice cream to a “Seinfeld” babka, is fantastically delicious. There’s hardly a dessert that doesn’t taste a whole lot better with cinnamon.
Just one whiff of a hot cinnamon bun is enough to make a man lose his mind. The Smell and Taste Research Foundation, a “stink tank” in Chicago, has done studies proving that cinnamon’s scent is a total turn-on to men. And nothing is more tingly and seductive than a warm, sticky Cinnabon straight from the oven. Ladies, if you want to get a fella’s heart racing in the morning, give him a Cinnabon for breakfast in bed.
I’m a little confused … are we still talking about food?
Here’s the Cinnabon Minibon Roll blueprint: a smaller version of the world-famous Cinnabon Roll, including Makara cinnamon and cream-cheese frosting.
Total calories: 300. Fat grams: 11. Sodium: 280 mg. Protein: 6 g. Dietary fiber: 1 g. Carbs: 45 g. Manufacturer’s suggested retail price: $1.99. They also come in a four-pack for $5.99.
Let’s lay it on the line: This is the single greatest, most intoxicating, mind-blowing, over-the-top dessert ever offered in a burger chain drive-thru. A McFlurry? I’ll pretend you didn’t say that.
Personal note: I went on a back-roads vacation in Asia some years ago, and developed an obsession and longing for a Cinnabon that drove me crazy. All I could think about was getting off that plane at LAX, sprinting to the food court and diving into a Cinnabon.
I did it. I ordered three Cinnabons with extra pecans and caramel sauce, and devoured them on my way to baggage claim. Later I realized that each fully loaded Cinnabon has 1,100 calories and 56 fat grams. Welcome home to me. Is there a Big & Tall men’s store in the airport?
Cinnabon Minibons at Burger King are about half the size of a Cinnabon at the mall. They are baked fresh, in the familiar metal pans, each day at Burger King. We like to recognized retail products in the drive-thru. It’s like a food blankie.
Imagine a Cinnabon without the outer edge — you know, that dry, drab perimeter of a Cinnabon. At Burger King, the Minibon is just the middle, the best part, the inner rings gooey with cinnamon and super-sweet cream-cheese frosting. Use a knife and fork — otherwise you’ll be licking your fingers the rest of the day.
Burger King serves ’em warm, so the flavor intensifies and overwhelms the senses. Cinnabon imports Makara cinnamon from Indonesia, so you pay a little more than you would for a cinnamon bun from a gas-station vending machine. Get the four-pack for $5.99 and save a couple of them for tomorrow.
And by tomorrow, I mean the ride home today.
