Utah filmmaker Richard Dutcher needs a kick in the pants — more specifically, in the part of the pants where he keeps his wallet. Dutcher’s newest film “The Boys at the Bar,” is in the can, but Dutcher and his team — more about them in a moment — need a funding boost to complete the post-production process.

“The Boys at the Bar” is an experimental film, but not in the “THX-1138” sense of the term. Dutcher launched the film after being asked by several first-time filmmakers to teach a class in film production. So instead of setting something up at a public library or community college, Dutcher asked for serious participation from serious partners in a full-length feature film: There’s no better way to learn than by doing, right?

With 23 students on board after a 30-day recruitment period, Dutcher launched Project 23, a hands-on film production class that would end, ideally, with a finished film in theatrical release, or available via other platforms. “The Boys at the Bar” is close, but needs a final push. Project 23 is now seeking $100,000 in finishing funds via Kickstarter (www.kickstarter.com), the most popular of the Web’s many crowd-funding sites.

Interested parties can make a Kickstarter pledge until 11:45 p.m. on May 19.

Starting at $4.32/week.
