Expect a handful at Five Guys Burgers and Fries
The menu at Five Guys Burgers and Fries is pretty much stated in its title.
Throw in four different kinds of hot dogs, a trio of sandwich offerings and fountain drinks, and you’ve got the whole shebang covered.
What Five Guys lacks in variety it makes up for in quality. We came away enjoyably stuffed from a recent Friday night visit to the American Fork location.
One of the first things that struck me about Five Guys while we were waiting in line to place our order was that it seemed like it would be a great place to work as a teenager. There was classic rock playing over the speakers. The cooks and greeters, and indeed they were all fairly young, would loudly converse among themselves and yell out orders when they were ready. The whole place seemed to bubble with a boisterous energy, which was kind of fun.
I’ve never been overly worried about where my french fries came from before — but a grease board at Five Guys proclaimed that “Today’s potatatoes came from Lewiston, Idaho.” No word on where the peanuts came from, but they were abundant and free for the taking. We enjoyed filling a few tray cartons with peanuts — available from several boxes around the restaurant — to munch on while waiting for our order.
Another great thing about Five Guys is that all the toppings are free for the choosing. You can have it your way without worrying about adding an extra dollar or two to your total. There is no skimping on the ingredients, either. Options include lettuce, pickles, tomatoes, grilled onions, grilled mushrooms, relish, jalapeño peppers and green peppers, in addition to an array of condiments and sauces.
When you have Burgers and Fries as part of your name, you better deliver on those two items, and Five Guys certainly does. We loved our Bacon Cheeseburger, the highest-priced item on the menu. The burger came with two patties and was piled, of course, with all my favorite toppings. Delicious! The fries were fantastic as well. We loved how they were served — in a tall drink glass. The in-house fry sauce was tasty and made a great accompaniment. We could enjoy many a meal here by sticking to just a burger, fries and peanuts.
But our other menu samplings were also well received. We tried the BLT Sandwich and a Kosher Style Hot Dog, and loved every bite of those two items that we could squirrel away from others in our dining party.
The dining area is a decent size, featuring what looked to be about 25 tables that could seat about 100 patrons or so total. Things are packed pretty tight, though, so expect to be in close proximity to other diners.
Five Guys — a national chain that opened in the metro Washington D.C. area in 1986 and now features more than 1,000 franchises nationwide (including 12 in Utah) — is open seven days a week, so it should be available whenever your next burger fix hits.
