It’s been kicking around at film festivals for a while, but now the Utah-made horror comedy “Dr. Limptooth” has risen from its coffin to claim an eye-catching new lease on life. After being generically (read: marketably) retitled “Vamp U,” the film made its debut on several streaming media platforms last month, and will sink its fangs into a limited theatrical release this weekend.

“Vamp U” tells the sad story of morose vampire Wayne Gretzky, who accidentally killed the love of his life several centuries ago and, in the modern era, is a glum college history professor. Wayne unleashes a campus crisis after inadvertently drinking the blood of a sexy coed, who turns out to be once bitten, not at all shy about exploring vampirism — beginning with her sorority sisters.

The film features Utah-based brothers Bart and Adam Johnson (who plays Wayne), along with Maclain Nelson and Matt Mattson of the locally popular Thrillionaires theatrical improv troupe. (The cast also includes Hollywood old pro Gary Cole and Julie Gonzalo of TNT’s “Dallas.”) Nelson co-wrote and co-directed the film with Matt Jesperson.

There were no listings for Utah Valley or Salt Lake County “Vamp U” showtimes as of the Ticket deadline, but the film can be viewed online, pay-per-play, via Amazon, iTunes and Google.

Starting at $4.32/week.
