Dance lessons for children can be affordable
Are you a parent who wants to involve their child in dance, but is steered away by the expensive cost? Well, not all options have to break your budget. The following are three affordable options to involve your child in the wonderful art of dance.
Legacy Dance Studio, 1668 S. State Street, Orem
Directors Julia and Fidias Penate recently moved their studio to this newly renovated location. Legacy Dance Studio offers ballet/pointe, jazz, lyrical, hip hop, ballroom and musical theater. There are classes for ages 2-18, competing and non-competing.
Their mission, along with providing an affordable price is, “We emphasize a family friendly atmosphere with modest costumes and clean lyrics. Our passion is dance. We will make your child shine!”
Legacy ballroom dancers and teams have achieved national titles and recognition. Tuition starts at $34/1 hour a week. They offer multiple class, sibling, and a “Class mom” discount (unique to their studio). Legacy also cuts costs by renting costumes to their students instead of requiring a purchase (although it is an option).

Dance La Vie’ Academy, 77 N. 500 West, Provo
Dance La Vie’ Academy’s director, Jerica Garrick, mentored by Denna Lyman-Robertson of neighboring ConfiDance Club, is currently a teacher at ConfiDance which is unfortunately in its last year of operation.
Lyman-Robertson has served the community for years developing skill, teamwork, and self-confidence in her dancers and has been well-known for her affordable prices. The valley will be sad to see her go, but should be happy to know that Garrick will be continuing her legacy.
Taking on many of Lyman-Robertson’s philosophies and students with her, Garrick moved to her own space and created a new name. Classes will start this summer at $50/2 hours a week, with a free week of dance. Tuition for regular classes starting in the fall will start at $40/1 hour a week.
Garrick hopes to lower tuition once business gets going. She will be offering an early registration discount (and hopes to get rid of the registration fee in the future), a sibling discount and a discount for tuition paid on time. Garrick also plans to cut costs of costumes by purchasing costumes that can easily be turned into another (what ConfiDance calls a “2 in 1” costume).
Dance La Vie’ Academy will have both recreational and competition teams and will offer ballet, tap, jazz, lyrical and tumbling. To find out more information, go to www.dancelavieacademy.blogspot.com or call (801) 699-4914.
SCERA Center for the Arts, 745 S. State Street, Orem
SCERA also provides a reasonable cost for recreational classes at $35/1 hour a week. SCERA’s Youth Dance Program consists of classes for ages 3-14, offering creative movement, ballet, jazz, tap and hip hop.
SCERA programs are always expanding, and have the resources to create more classes if there is demand. For more information go to www.scera.org or call (801) 225-ARTS.
