I’ve always loved playing games; board games, card games, games of strategy, games of pure silliness. You name it, I probably like it; except the Signs game randomly enough. We’ll blame it on one too many Family Home Evenings at BYU. Anyway, I digress.

I grew up on playing games. Family favorites such as Settlers of Catan and Carcassonne have been added to tried-and-true classics like Rook, Canasta, and Scum. Of course we balance out strategy with the creative fun and laughs found in Apples to Apples, Dixit, and good ol’ Telephone Charades.

One of the first games I remember playing, and loving I might add, was Candy Land. I loved the bright colors, the potential shortcuts, and the variety of candy and characters! It was just so much fun!! I remember playing it with my sisters numerous times in a row, pretending whatever character card you drew, you not only moved to that space, but you also became that character; obviously a race to be Queen Frostine (or at least Princess Lolly) quickly ensued.

Delightful memories of playing Candy Land are deeply embedded in my heart, and anything that reminds me of its wonders, quickly brings a smile to my face.

The first time I went to Yogurtland, I was immediately enthralled. The setup alone was intriguing; pay by the ounce, mix and match flavors and toppings however you want! Wow! Then I actually tried the flavors — bold, rich, delicious! I knew I had arrived … a real life Candy Land!

The kid in me was ecstatic, my sweet tooth was thrilled, and the penny pincher in me was happy I could choose how much I wanted to spend. Since then I have, of course, made Yogurtland one of my go-to dessert places, easily justifying the outing since frozen yogurt is healthier than a lot of other options (perhaps not so much, when topped with Reese’s and chocolate sauce). But with rotating flavors, and sample cups to try before you buy, it’s just so easy to get lulled in.

My fellow Lunch Ladies couldn’t agree more! So when they, without any prodding from me I swear, suggested we head there for our next lunch review, I was, of course, on board! Why not indulge a little?

Here is how the Lunch Ladies fared in our real life Candy:

Jennette: White Chocolate Peppermint and Cookie Butter $0.39 per oz.

How can you possibly decide what flavor of yogurt to get when faced with so many options at Yogurtland? Answer: sample cups! At Yogurtland you can sample all the flavors of yogurt so you can make the best decision possible. But sometimes that is the hardest part, choosing which yogurt to get. Today, after careful sampling, I chose White Chocolate Peppermint and Cookie Butter, both are seasonal flavors. Now for the toppings and more decisions. No sampling this time. I went for simple flavors so that I could still taste the yogurt. Mini M&M’s, yogurt chips and crushed Heath Bar. Delicious!!!

Sylvia: Pistachio and Chocolate Milk Shake $0.39 per oz.

I always have an internal struggle when going to Yogurtland … how to keep the topping-to-yogurt ratio in balance. I usually end up with enough candy on top to send me into sugar shock, but today I did pretty well. After tasting almost every flavor of yogurt available, I decided on the Pistachio & Chocolate Milk Shake to build my serving on. The toppings I chose were Heath bar, Butterfinger, Strawberries & Kiwi. It was a wonderful cup of flavor! I love this place!

Lyndsi: Cookie Butter and Eggnog $0.39 per oz.

Since we have had a crazy warm winter this year I think everyone should celebrate with a little frozen yogurt in delicious holiday flavors at Yogurtland. You still get a taste of the season but don’t have to sit in 60-degree weather drinking a hot chocolate. This visit I enjoyed a mix of Cookie Butter and Eggnog which fit together like Santa and reindeer. The sweet cookie flavor and subtle spice was perfect to add a little something extra to the creamy eggnog flavor. I went simple with the toppings this time just adding yogurt chips, chocolate chips, Kit Kat pieces and a spiced ginger cookie. This was the perfect holiday treat for a warm day, but it was so good I think I would be strong and even eat it in the snow.

Gabby: Coconut and White Chocolate Peppermint $0.39 per oz.

The best thing about the frozen yogurts at Yogurtland is that weak and bland yogurts cower in their presence. The flavors are strong enough to stand on their own and need no masking. With that said, the tempting toppings always seem to beckon me. This outing I chose my constant favorite, Coconut, along with the special holiday flavor, White Chocolate Peppermint. I accented both with Ghirardelli Chocolate Sauce drizzled on top. It was a white wonderland! So creamy, so minty, so sweet, it was the perfect concoction to amuse my taste buds and delight my senses. Loved every flavorful bite!

After quite the enjoyable lunch hour, it was clear to see why we love Yogurtland. Perhaps it is because the Lunch Ladies are Mama Ginger Tree, Princess Lolly, Gramma Nut and Queen Frostine at heart. So whether you too are an avid Candy Land fan and can relate there, or whether you just want a sweet treat sensation, we highly recommend trying out Yogurtland! It will whisk you away to the phrase they’ve coined at this neighborhood eatery, a “Winter Yogurtland.”
