Avoid Sundance chaos, control hunger at East Coast-style eatery

By Jennifer Durrant - Daily Herald - | Jan 23, 2014

Heading up to Park City for an afternoon of celeb stalking and premiere watching during the Sundance Film Festival? Have you thought about where you’re going to take a break to grab some grub?

I have discovered a perfect restaurant option sure to satisfy that growling belly while also allowing you a respite from the crazy crowds of Main Street during the film fest.

Maxwell’s East Coast Eatery is actually located away from the traffic jams, non-existent parking spots, long lines and two-hour seating times of the Main Street restaurants. Found in the Kimball Junction area of Park City, this restaurant is great for either a fun-filled lunch or a leisurely dinner date after a movie star-filled day.

Boasting a large menu filled with both American and Italian favorites, Maxwell’s is sure to have something to please every palate.

Recently the Features and Digital team covering all the hubbub at Sundance for the Daily Herald converged on the restaurant for a delicious lunch.

Expecting a wait since we were at the restaurant during the opening weekend of the festival, we were all delighted to be immediately seated in the sports bar-like establishment.

The lunch menu features a wide selection of sandwiches such as the Hot Meatball Sub, the Chicken Caesar Wrap and Eggplant Parmigiano. as well as a selection of salads, and pizzas. With the majority of the entrees under that $10 mark, the price was right. The only real exception was the full, eight-slice specialty pizza pies that are $21.

After studying the menu for a bit, our group of four was ready to order. Doug and Michele both selected the Salmon BLT Wrap which was filled with seared salmon, crisp bacon, tomato and lettuce, all tossed in a pesto ranch dressing and wrapped in a flour tortilla. Served up with some of the best, extra crispy French fries I’ve ever swiped from a plate, their meal sounded delightful.

Court, eager to fuel up for what was sure to be a long night of interviews and movie screenings, ordered the Famous Philly Cheesesteak that was loaded with piles of beef, melty provolone cheese, and sautéed veggies. He also opted for those delish French fries as well.

I decided to deviate from the sandwiches for my entrée and ordered the Cheese Tortellini. This pasta was a delicious mix of cheese-infused pasta, salty bites of prosciutto, green peas and tangy sun-dried tomatoes, all tossed in a creamy sauce. This large bowl of food was a great version of the traditional carbonara dish that I love, enhanced by the addition of the sun-dried tomatoes.

Instead of ordering an appetizer — Maxwell’s offers the usual suspects like bruschetta and buffalo wings with some surprises like steamed mussels and roasted garlic and sun-dried tomato hummus — we ordered one of their Fat Kid Pizzas.

The Donnie Brasco is a cheese pizza featuring an alfredo sauce, mozzarella, provolone and ricotta cheese drizzled with the unexpected sweetness of a balsamic reduction. This pizza was, by far, my favorite part of our meal. A sweet surprise.

The dinner menu at Maxwell’s offers a wide array of pastas allowing you to mix and match your noodles with your favorite sauces. Other Italian favorites include Lasagna, Seafood Fra Diavolo and Chicken Piccata. Next time I’m in Park City, hopefully for dinner, I’m already planning on ordering up their Mushroom Risotto.

So if you’re looking for a great place to enjoy a delicious meal while carousing with Hollywood’s finest, be sure and check out Maxwell’s East Coast Eatery. You won’t be disappointed.
