Diversity. The condition of being composed of different elements; what divides us and defines us as being set apart one to another. Unity. The state of being brought together as one whole; what drives us together as one group, in one purpose.

So what could bring the diverse group of the mothers of the Mumsy Blog and the working Lunch Ladies together this afternoon? The unifying language of lunch!

This fine summer day we decided to sit down with our new friends of the Mumsy Blog at Brassas Mexican Grill in Provo and enjoy some great food and great conversation.

On a day-to-day basis, we might seem to live in different worlds, with none of the Lunch Ladies currently raising children, and all working full-time; while the mothers of Mumsy have staying at home with their children as their top focus in both their lives and their blog. But even with different life dynamics, we quickly found a great deal in common to discuss.

We are all passionate about our community. For example, the mothers of Mumsy recently held a charity event to benefit our local Center for Women and Children in Crisis. The Lunch Ladies have also worked with the United Way of Utah County to raise funds and needed items for this same organization. As we all chatted, we quickly realized how much we all care about making a difference in our community and working with non-profit organizations.

We also are big proponents of shopping local. Animatedly throwing out suggestions for local restaurants, shops, boutiques and local venues for music and art, it was easy to tell we are locked into our neighborhoods and local scene, regardless of what we do during the 8-to-5 hours of the day.

And finally, what could bring us together more than delicious food! Only Natashia and I had ever tried Brassas before. We both highly recommended it to our counterparts, and hoped they would enjoy the outdoor restaurant as much as we have in the past.

Here’s what the Mothers of Mumsy and the Lunch Ladies had to say:

Lyndsi: Veggie Burrito for $6.99

Great food, great company, great times — the perfect way to describe our lunch at Brassas with our new friends. I chose to fill up on the veggie burrito, and was very happy with my choice. It was stuffed with thinly sliced red potatoes, refried beans, rice, cheese, pico and guacamole. I loved the potatoes, and also the guacamole inside the burrito, so much easier than spreading it on top. The best part was it was so big I got to enjoy the rest the next day!

Sylvia: Green Salad for $4.99

I’ve driven by this taco shack many times and always wanted to stop. The street food it serves all looked delicious. My nice mix of greens with tomatoes and radishes, topped with the most tender Carne Asada meat I have had in a long time, made up a very tasteful salad. The only thing missing was the giant droplet of guacamole everyone else had on their plates — I should have requested that. … I will next time for sure.

Jennette: Chicken Quesadilla for $6.49, bottled Coca Cola for $1.99

What goes better with Mexican food than a delicious Coke? Nothing! I know I usually have Diet Coke but I couldn’t resist a nice, cold bottle of Mexican Coke. It accented my chicken quesadilla perfectly. The quesadilla was stuffed with cheese (but not too much), grilled chicken, fresh guacamole and pico. I topped it off with some delicious green salsa.

Natashia: Carne Asada Torta for $6.99, bottled Jarritos for $1.99

When we ate at Brassas, I was looking for a filling dish. Boy did I get it! I ordered the torta. It is loaded with onions, meat and lettuce stuffed in bread. The bread is a perfect consistency and really made this meal hearty. When ordering the torta, I would definitely recommend some toppings if you like a little more flavor to your dishes. I spiced up my torta with some mild green salsa and a squirt of lime. The meat was perfectly cooked and seasoned. Adding in my authentic bottled orange Jarritos, my meal was complete. I definitely will be going back again!

Michelle: Two Street Tacos for $1.85 each, bottled for Coca Cola $1.99

When it comes to eating out, Mexican cuisine is always at the top of my list. So, when I got the chance to go to Brassas with the beautiful Lunch Ladies, I jumped at the opportunity. For the past few years, I have continuously driven by the quaint outdoor eatery, but never had the time to stop and sample its fare. Finally, the time had come, and I was anything but disappointed! After a few moments of deciding what to order, I settled on the Pork and Steak Street Tacos and a bottled Coca Cola; coming to a grand total of $5.80. Never before had I eaten street tacos as good as these! Every bite was absolute bliss; and I can’t wait to go back for more!

Gabby: Carne Asada Nachos for $7.49

A mound of food, piled high, these nachos definitely delivered! Super crisp, thick, warm chips, refried beans that tasted like they had never seen a can, a generous portion of fresh guacamole, and tender flavorful steak that actually didn’t just taste like the leftover shavings from another meal; these nachos were excellent. All topped off with abundant sour cream and cheese, ordering these nachos was pretty much like striking the mother lode! Simply delicious, simply fresh, simply can’t wait to go back!

A fun lunch, fast-paced conversation, and quality time out with the girls; a refreshing reminder that sometimes you just need to rally the troops and feed off one another’s energy and enthusiasm, regardless of the various paths in life you are all currently walking down.
