I’m a carnivore. Plain and simple.

I like meat; a big fat, juicy hamburger, steak, pork chops, marinated chicken breast, you name it. My family always enjoyed the meat and potatoes type of Sunday dinner.

Maybe it’s because my dad grew up in Texas, complete with a “Don’t Mess with Texas” mindset, or maybe it’s because we thought that was a fancier change of pace to the rest of the meals throughout the week. But whenever we got out the grill for a slab of meat, or you could smell a brisket cooking, it was something to get excited about. And since my mom is an amazing cook, and knows how to prepare many a fantastic meal, you knew your carnivorous appetite would be more than satisfied!

Should I apologize now to the vegetarians and vegans? How about we just mutually agree that our food review this week, isn’t for you. Because the second I heard Burgers Supreme started offering a gluten-free hamburger bun, I knew the Lunch Ladies had to head on over! This, of course, took no extra convincing or persuading of my lunch companions; they too, were sold on the idea instantly!

Now we just had to wait for the cherished lunch hour and hope that the internal churning of our stomachs would not eventually sync up with the ticking of the clock. But luckily, a few meetings, phone calls and projects distracted until the clock struck 12, and we were off.

The quick three-minute drive from our office was rewarded with the smell of hamburgers grilling and bacon sizzling. Stomachs growling, mouths watering, we quickly made our way up to the counter and placed our orders with the friendly staff. Buzzers in hand, drinks filled, we awaited our tempting meals and slowly began to unwind from the morning.

Here is what the Lunch Ladies purchased:

Lyndsi: Cheeseburger Combo $6.09

“Cheezborger, cheezborger, cheezborger!” This line from “Saturday Night Live” was something I heard many times while living in Chicago near the famous Billy Goat Tavern. After living there I have found that a good cheeseburger is hard to come by, but I have found a great one at Burgers Supreme. My cheeseburger was perfectly cooked and topped just right with the basics: lettuce, tomato, onions, pickles and ketchup. I also added some fry sauce, because everything is better with fry sauce! I made it a combo because the fries here are delicious and a burger without a Coke is just not the same. So if you are looking for that perfect cheeseburger, look no further than Burgers Supreme.

Jennette: Gyro Sandwich Combo $7.09

I was starving today, so when the group suggested Burgers Supreme, I was excited. It has the best gyros around and they are quite filling. The gyro is served on a piece of pita bread with rotisserie lamb that was crispy around the edges, a creamy yogurt-based tzatziki sauce, tomatoes and onion. All these ingredients combined to make the best gyro in Provo. My combo came with fries and a refillable Diet Coke, which I filled a few times and then one more time for the road.

Sylvia: Chef Salad $5.99

Toss together fresh, chopped lettuce, cucumbers, tomatoes, hard-boiled egg slices, crispy croutons, piled high with smoked turkey, ham and cheese and you have the classic Chef Salad at Burgers Supreme. I topped mine with Raspberry Vinaigrette — delish! I’ve tried loads of things on the menu and always had a tasty experience.

Gabby: Pastrami Cheeseburger Combo $8.09+$1.00 for Gluten-Free Bun

If I was paying tribute to my completely carnivorous side this lunch, I figured I might as well go for two types of meat! And boy was it fantastic! When I first sunk my teeth into the soft, thick, gluten-free bun my taste buds were delighted. The flavors and textures were a perfect win! My hamburger was piled high with flavorful pastrami. There were also tomatoes, lettuce, and cheese on a deliciously char-broiled and seasoned hamburger patty. Complimented by hot steak fries that clearly had not just been sitting under a heat lamp and accented by signature fry sauce, this lunch was delectable! I washed it all down with some Light Minute Maid Lemonade. Refreshing! It was simply a great, freshly made combo meal that made me feel like I was at a summer BBQ.

We definitely enjoyed our meals at Burgers Supreme. We also appreciated how quickly the line moved, and how promptly we had our meals, allowing us time to leisurely eat our food. But who are we kidding; we could barely take a break from scarfing down our grub, and noticed our chatting increased significantly once our meals disappeared.

Not only can I confidently recommend Burgers Supreme’s delicious gluten-free bun as a tasty option, I think the Lunch Ladies can also safely suggest that you add Burgers Supreme to your Carnivore Calendar, maybe just after Chicken Thigh Thursdays!
