Soda Showdown: A soda by any other name could be just as sweet
Almost a year ago, the “dirty drink” craze began to infiltrate Utah County. Popular drink cafe Sodalicious came to Provo. Gas stations and restaurants offered flavored syrups to add to your drinks. And then Swig announced that they would be opening more locations in the area.
The concept of the dirty drink took hold and it still hasn’t let go.
Provo and the surrounding areas have attracted a lot of options for getting your dirty drink fix. Whether you like your Mtn Dew with a bit of mango or you love trying new-named drinks, Utah County is the perfect place to satisfy your thirst.
But why is Utah County so addicted to drink cafes?
For one, it’s the convenience of so many sweet treats all in one place. These shops offer a variety of blended “dirty drinks,” hot chocolate, coffee and treats including sugar cookies so sweet you’ll get cavities just by looking at them. It’s a quick, convenient stop that satisfies your sweet tooth or your thirst or your inexplicable craving for a Dirty Diet Coke.
Additionally, the offerings are inexpensive. Getting a mixed (soda) drink is usually cheaper than buying a morning coffee.
It also gives you freedom. You can put whatever you want in your drink. Though there are many named and predetermined beverage combinations, you can always make your own. Between all of the soda and syrup/puree/mix-in options, there are well over a billion possible drink combinations.
From the Sip-N Spot in Payson to The Slurp in American Fork to Guzzles in Orem, the choices are almost limitless.
With all these options, though, it can be hard to find your favorite place without trying every single spot. Therefore, we decided the only proper course of action was to set out and try these drink cafes. Then, bring the findings back to you.
