What to watch: Relive your favorite Halloween episodes

By Stacy Johnson daily Herald - | Oct 31, 2014

Halloween night is a perfect night to relive some of the best Halloween episodes of some of your favorite shows.

Here are five of my favorite Halloween-themed television episodes.

”Friends” – The One with the Halloween Party (Season eight, episode six)

The friends attend a Halloween party hosted by Monica and Chandler. Chandler comes in a pink bunny costume that Monica bought for him and Ross comes as “Spud-nick.” Monica is dressed as Catwoman and Pheobe as Supergirl.

Rachel wants to show that she is good with kids, so she volunteers to hand out candy to trick-or-treaters. She gives all of the candy to one kid and ends up having to hand out money.

It is a classic “Friends” episode.

”How I Met Your Mother” – The Slutty Pumpkin (Season one, episode six)

The very first Halloween episode of “How I Met Your Mother” set the stage for years of costumed goodness.

Ted spends Halloween at the rooftop Halloween party, waiting for a woman dressed as a slutty pumpkin that he met four years before at the same party. Meanwhile, Barney tries to convince Ted to instead go to Victoria’s Secret party. Ted is, of course, wearing his “hanging chad” costume because that is what he was wearing when he first met the “slutty pumpkin.”

”The Office” – Halloween (Season two, episode five)

Over the years, “The Office” had some pretty amazing Halloween episodes, featuring some pretty classic costumes, but the very first Halloween-themed episode set the standard.

In the episode, Michael waits until the last day of the month, Halloween, to fire one employee in the office, which puts everyone on edge.

The episode features classic costumes like Kelly as Dorothy from the “Wizard of Oz,” Dwight as a Sith, Kevin as a Dunder Mifflin super hero, creed asa vampire and Devon as a hobo. It also has Pam, Phyllis and Angela, all as cats; Oscar as a woman; Michael as a 2-headed Michael and Jim as 3-hole-punch Jim.

”Modern Family” – Halloween (Season two, episode six)

In “Modern Family’s” second season, the Halloween episode introduces Claire’s love of Halloween an her obsession with having the scariest house on the block.

The whole family pitches in to participate in her haunted house, but nothing seems to go right. Jay is late with all of the special effects, Gloria tries to speak in perfect English and Cameron won’t stop talking about a traumatic Halloween experience from his childhood.

”New Girl” – Halloween (Season two, episode six)

In its second season “New Girl” featured a Halloween episode where Jess works in a haunted house. Nick tries to avoid visiting her there because he is secretly terrified of haunted houses. Jess realizes that she has feelings for Sam and Schmidt tries to come between Robby and Cece.

The best part of the episode, though, comes when Nick does finally go through the haunted house. When Jess jumps out to scare him, he punches her in the face.

Your best bets: “Blue Bloods” and “Hawaii Five-0” continue to lead the Friday night lineup viewership. “Hawaii Five-0” airs at 8 p.m. and  “Blue Bloods” airs at 9 p.m., both on CBS.
