Alexia Meyer receives warm welcome home after time on ‘So You Think You Can Dance’
Orem native Alexia Meyer, 19, made it into the Top 10 on the hit Fox TV show "So You Think You Can Dance" before being cut recently.
It’s been a pretty crazy few months for Alexia Meyer of Orem. Aside from attending college in the Big Apple, the dancer made it to the January 2015 New York auditions of Fox’s “So You Think You Can Dance,” dancing her way to the Las Vegas callbacks and straight into the Top 20 of the show — a pretty impressive achievement.
Though Meyer remained among the top of her competitors until the final 14, her one time on the bottom fell during a double elimination round, and, in a disappointing turn of events, she ultimately was sent home.
Meyer’s experiences on the show include some incredibly impressive dance numbers, as well as a lifetime of memories and experiences.
“Being on this show has been an incredible journey!” she said in an email regarding the show. “Beyond working with all the amazing and inspiring choreographers and dancers, I was able to truly see how much support and love I have from everyone around me. I am so blessed.”
That support continued before Meyer’s plane even hit the tarmac in Salt Lake City Tuesday evening, with neighbors friends and fellow dancers from her Orem studio, The Dance Club, gathering in her neighborhood to welcome her home with balloons and hand painted signs of support.
Meyer certainly left her mark on the show, starting at her very first audition appearance when the audience actually booed judge Paula Abdul for some negative critiques she gave. Meyer received high praise from all three judges, as well as some impressive support from the audience as well, and was soon on her way to Las Vegas.
“The audience themselves showed you how much they enjoyed it,” judge Nigel Lythgoe said of Meyer’s audition. “I want to tell you how much I enjoyed it, too. You’re a definite yes for me to go through.”
“Going to Vegas was an awesome experience, with all of those amazing dancers from all over the country,” Meyer said in an interview regarding her progression to Las Vegas. “It was inspiring.”
Meyer has those same sentiments still, after dancing with and getting to know her competitors even better through the weeks of choreography, work and competition that brought her to the Top 14.
“I know that this isn’t the end,” Meyer said. “It’s just the beginning to new and exciting things. The friendships built while being on the show are priceless. I will be so happy for whoever is announced as the winner. They all deserve it!”
In the end, Meyer said the biggest thing that has kept her motivated is the incredible support she has received along the way.
“I am so grateful for everyone that has helped me get to where I am,” she said. “I know I am being watched over. I hope to able to do the SYTYCD tour and continue to show America my love for dance!”
