The Pad Thai Lunch Special was Janell's meal of choice at Thai Village.

As the New Year approaches, we all look inward and take stock of our lives — you know, examine where we have been and ask ourselves where we’re going to go next.

This examination could be with our personal or professional endeavors. This can be enlightening as we may have welcomed new challenges or people into our lives. As we each look forward to the new year and what resolutions we would like to accomplish in the 12 months ahead, it could encompass many things. Are we trying to lose weight, become a better listener, find a new job, return to school, or broaden your horizons? All things worthy of contemplation in the next couple weeks and months.

Might I suggest that as you look to broaden your palate and decide where to spend that all-too-important-break during your eight-hour-work-day that you look back over the places that the Lunch Ladies have ventured this past year for some great ideas? I would also include our newest location: Thai Village on University Avenue in Provo. It will be an experience that you will not soon forget.

As we walked into this corner location, I saw artifacts that will add to your dining experience. They quickly sat our large group, because lunch is not fun if you are not surrounded by friends. We were attended to by a friendly server who brought us some water and gave us the space needed to decide what we would get for lunch. We also had time to catch up with each other and everyone’s holiday plans. Then the great discussion began and we all answered that all-too-important question: “What should we have for lunch?”

Below you can see what was decided upon as we all came to our final decisions. The food was brought quickly to our table. You can see how the other ladies enjoyed their individual meal choices and overall experience.

Gabby — Pineapple Curry Lunch Special $7.95

Thai curries are some of my all-time favorite dishes. The flavors enchant me, and make my taste buds do a dance of pure glee! Today was no exception. I decided to get the Pineapple Curry. The sauce was rich in flavor, had the slightest kick and a touch of sweet, thanks to the coconut milk. Simply fabulous! Inside the sauce was an abundance of bamboo, red and green peppers, thinly sliced onions, and pineapple. I loved how pliable the onions were, contrasting the crispness of the fresh peppers. I chose pork as my meat option to complement the pineapple, and it was a fantastic combination. The steamed white rice was wonderful scooped into the bowl of veggies and meat. This special also comes with a fried spring roll and wonton chip, both of which I passed on to Jennette, and a side salad with a tasty dressing. It was a superb meal, full of flavors I loved and that I will be sure to enjoy again!

Jennette — Massaman Curry Lunch Special $7.95 and soda $1.50

I love curry so I was so happy that we chose to go to Thai Village. This was my first trip to this Thai place, and I am happy to say that it will not be my last. The lunch special alone should entice anyone to at least try Thai food if you haven’t ever sampled it before. The lunch special includes a salad, a spring roll, fried wonton chips, rice and a main dish. I decided to try the Massaman Curry With Chicken. This coconut milk-based curry is filled with potatoes, carrots and peanut sauce topped with cashews. So delicious! My good friend Gabby (who can’t eat gluten) gave me her spring roll and fried wontons — lucky me and sad for her. But with those extras and some delicious Diet Coke it was a well-rounded and scrumptious meal.

Janell — Pad Thai Lunch Special $7.95

I chose to order one of the lunch specials provided on the daily lunch menu. I have always enjoyed Pad Thai so I gravitated to this on the menu. I do have a thing for noodles and sauce. Though the lunch special was just a little bit more than noodles and sauce. My meal came with chicken, bean sprouts, onions and eggs. It also came with salad and an egg roll. Normally I do not care for egg rolls, they tend to be soggy, and I do not like that at all. The egg roll at Thai Village was crispy and delicious. It was a great addition to my meal. This experience I enjoyed at Thai Village was my first with Thai food. Though I had Pad Thai noodles from different restaurants I had never been to a Thai place before. Now I am not sure that I will ever be able to order Pad Thai noodles from a non-Thai restaurant in the future. I would recommend this location and my dish to anyone who is partial to noodle dishes. Go and warm your heart with food made with care and kindness.

Well, there you have it, ladies and gentlemen. Once again these ladies have gone to lunch to a new and exciting location.
