‘The Angry Birds Movie’ combo pack is ready to launch

Bird Island is filled with happy, loving birds. Well, most of them are like that. There are a few birds with attitude problems, including one in particular – Red. “The Angry Birds Movie,” coming to DVD and Blueray Aug. 16, is a fun-filled frolic with these feathery fellows.
Red (voiced by Jason Sudekis) is filled with anger. With his Groucho Marx eyebrows, he goes around town with a grumpy demeanor. He feels like an outsider, and he wants to be one. When he is sentenced to anger management class he meets a few others with some problems of their own: Chuck (Josh Gad), Bomb (Danny McBride), Terence (Sean Penn), and Matilda (Maya Rudolph).
Later on, when a boat of pigs visits the island, the birds welcome them with open hearts – all except Red. Red senses the new green creatures have an alternative motive. They seem friendly and eager to meet the birds, but deep down Red knows they are up to something. The problem is that no one pays any attention to his concerns. After all, he’s always grumpy and angry.
But the birds soon discover their red friend was correct. The pigs are on the island to steal their eggs. With a new group of hatchlings ready to enter the world, there are a lot of eggs, which the pigs are expecting to eat. It’s up to Red to lead the birds to Pig Island and rescue the eggs.
The Mighty Eagle is considered a myth, but Red knows he must exist so he embarks on a mission to seek the aid of the large bird – the only bird that can fly, by the way. Did I forget to mention that none of the birds fly? Can Red, Bomb, and Chuck convince the Mighty Eagle (Peter Dinklage) to help rescue the eggs?
In their whacky way, the birds use the tools the pigs left on their island to concoct their own boat to follow the pigs. They also make use out of the pigs’ slingshots to shoot themselves into the pig village. So now you know what made the birds angry in the video game “Angry Birds,” and how they came to acquire and use slingshots. After all this time of playing the game, everything comes into place for viewers as they put the pieces together and make sense out of the popular game.
With “The Angry Birds Movie” coming out on DVD and Blu-ray, it’s good for fans to realize the movie isn’t the only feature of the discs.
The bonus features include a cute new short, “The Early Hatchling Gets the Worm” in which one of the adorable little hatchlings makes friends with a worm. He – or she – would rather play with the worm than eat it. One of the filmmakers explains that when creating the movie they wondered, “How cute can we make (the hatchlings)?” It became their mandate to make the baby birds as adorable as possible, and they fulfilled that. These little birds are as cute as can be. Also included are the three messages from the hatchlings which were rolled out in the months prior to the release of the film: The Easter Message, The Mother’s Day Message, and the Season’s Greetings Message.
A featurette about making the film, dancing along with the characters, and introductions to the characters as well as deleted scenes are also included in the bonuses, as well as a follow-along craft lesson in which viewers make their own Piggy Tower with a soda or soup can. Viewers are also able to sync the Angry Birds app with the movie for additional fun and games.
All in all, this is a fun film for the entire family. It’s got some memorable characters, namely Red, and a bunch of adorable hatchlings who will steal your heart.
