Oh January, how you taunt me with your demand for resolutions, begging for renewed gym memberships, flaunting of Weight Watchers and Nordic Track commercials and your incessant nagging to change my pajama pant-wearing ways!

Yes, the desire to make a fresh start in a new year is ever-present in my mind, but actually launching into my list of resolutions, even when the list is simple like this year, can be so daunting.

While I still have yet to renew my gym membership (This week, I swear!), I have found a completely delicious way to work on that “make healthier food choices” goal.

Want to know my new-found secret for eating more organic fruits and veggies, lowering my sugar intake and incorporating flax seed, honey and superfoods into my diet? Trust me, the secret is truly divine.

Simply look to the heavens for a bowl full of healthy deliciousness.

Well, OK, not really. All you really need do is walk into the Bowl of Heaven restaurant in Provo.

Bowl of Heaven specializes in making healthy fruits and vegetables taste heavenly.

Eating an açaí bowl has been compared to eating healthy ice cream or fro-yo, but with a twist. With a frozen combination of fruits and greens, like açaí berry, pineapple, blueberries, apple juice, fresh kale, fresh spinach, and more, this non-dairy treat is then topped with more healthy-yet-sweet ingredients like fresh berries, bananas, honey, granola and even dark chocolate.

My first attempt to secure a taste of heaven for breakfast was stymied. With hours from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. my 8 a.m. arrival proved too early. Apparently my heavenly treat would be an afternoon indulgence. No matter, an afternoon boost is always a good idea.

Since I had a pretty busy, meeting-filled workday, I did a Bowl of Heaven to-go run, bringing back some treats to share with a co-worker during our weekly meeting.

I bought two açaí bowls, the Red Zinger and Lime-a-Licious, and a fresh-pressed juice, the Tropicana, for us to split.

I must say that our afternoon meeting has never been so enjoyable as we spooned up bites of our delicious bowls, comparing flavors and selecting our favorites.

The Red Zinger Bowl was filled with that frozen thicker-than-a-smoothie blend of organic açaí, mango, pineapple, blueberries, raspberries, fresh lime, fresh ginger, organic coconut water and Bowl of Heaven’s Maq 7 blend of seven superfruits. The bowl was topped with organic hemp flax seed granola, dark vanilla Belgian chocolate, fresh raspberries and honey.

With an almost floral taste to this bowl, I enjoyed the wonderful hints of ginger that enhanced the tropical flavor of the mango while bringing out a hint of Asian flair. The rich, dark chocolate combined with the fresh raspberries made this bowl a favorite for both myself and my co-worker.

The Lime-a-Licious bowl featured the organic açaí, strawberries, pineapple, blueberries, peaches, fresh lime, organic coconut water and Maq 7, with a topping featuring organic hemp flax seed granola, coconut, fresh strawberries, fresh blueberries and honey.

Naturally, with the lime juice and strawberries, this bowl was a little on the tart side. I love tart desserts and really enjoyed the juicy snap of the fresh blueberries drizzled in a taste of honey that would bring a nice contrast between the tart lime and the sweet toppings.

While the Red Zinger was the favorite, this bowl was a very close second. And now I can’t wait to go back and try the Popeye that obviously contains both fresh spinach and kale and Dan’s PB Bowl with peanut butter and chocolate almond milk.

Topping off our afternoon treat was the delicious Tropicana juice — a perfect blend of orange, strawberry and kiwi juices.

While some of those January goals may seem daunting, let me strongly suggest you put a check mark next to the “Eat healthy” category as you dig in to a tasty Bowl of Heaven. I’m sure this goal will become a habit much quicker than that “Go to the gym” resolution will.
