Lunch Ladies: Red Robin offers rockin’ lunch visit
So I am all about supporting Ma and Pa-type local restaurants.
I love doing what I can to keep their unique flavors and ambiances around, and to enjoy their one-of-a-kind experience. However, I also think it’s important to still support the hard-working members of your community who are employed at chain restaurants. To me it’s a balance.
I fully support the mantra of “Shop Local,” but I never shun the places in my community that are chain retailers who have supported my friends and neighbors for years with a solid paycheck. Those community members deserve my support as well. Like I said, it’s a balance.
With this in mind, the Lunch Ladies decided to hit up one of our favorite chain restaurants this week, Red Robin. Not only do they hold a special place in my heart for being one of the first places to offer a gluten-free bun, they also have bottomless fries. Let me just repeat that, bottomless fries, my friends! This of course merits a visit in and of itself!
So we headed over to the Provo Towne Centre Mall to our nearest Red Robin. On the way there I couldn’t help but sing “Rockin’ Robin” by Bobby Day in my head. I was tempted to start singing aloud, but thought I’d spare my fellow Lunch Ladies. If you are not familiar with the song, you are officially deprived, and I recommend you rectify it immediately. I only ask one thing, listen to the Bobby Day version, not the Jackson 5 version. Don’t disappoint yourself. Anyway, enough digression, back to the food review.
We parked the car and found our pace quickened as we saw our end goal in sight. Apparently we were hungrier than we thought. We made it to the hostess booth and were immediately seated. We glanced over the menu, noticing the many tasty options. Our friendly and efficient waiter took our orders, and even brought us a basket of fries to munch on while we waited for our entrees to be brought out. Nice!
Here is what the Lunch Ladies went with:
Janell: Red Robin Whiskey River BBQ Chicken Wrap $10.49
Going to Red Robin for me is a real “treat.” So when my fellow Lunch Ladies suggested we go to Red Robin, I was doing a small celebration dance inside. We were really lucky and were able to get right in and seated right away. This is the best place to go for a work celebration. During this “celebration,” I went lighter for lunch and ordered a Chicken Wrap. It came on a spinach tortilla with lettuce, cheese, tomatoes, tortilla strips, BBQ chicken, and “a touch of Ranch.” Of course this meal also comes with bottomless fries, but one can also get a different side, if they so choose to. However, I don’t know anyone who would not get those wonderful fries and sauce. It was amazing and one of the best lunches I have had all week.
Jennette: Royal Red Robin $10.99, Sweet Potato Fries $1.99 and drink $2.69
I usually order chicken when I go out to eat, I’m not sure why either. I order chicken so much that the last time I ate lunch with my family we were all asking what each other was getting and when it came to me, my mom spoke up and said, “It’s Jennette, so of course she is getting the chicken sandwich.” Well that all changed when I saw the Royal Red Robin hamburger at Red Robin. Who could resist an egg on a burger? Not me! This delicious burger is served with an over-easy egg, tomato, lettuce, cheese, mayo and bacon. This all combines for the best hamburger ever! I added sweet potato fries, which were crunchy and delicious, and a Diet Coke to complete my meal.
Gabby: California Chicken Sandwich $10.99, Gluten-Free Bun $1.99
I decided to branch out from my usual order of a Royal Red Robin burger and go with a chicken sandwich today. I was glad I did, because this sandwich was delicious! It comes with a grilled chicken breast, provolone cheese, bacon, guacamole, lettuce, tomatoes, pickles and light mayo. The chicken was moist and tender. The bacon was savory and crispy, and contrasted the fresh lettuce and tomatoes delightfully. I thought I wouldn’t be a huge fan of the mayo but it was light, and once combined with the guacamole, it ended up just being a nice accent. I was also surprised how well the tangy pickles blended in with the other flavors to give a nice little punch to the sandwich. Just fantastic! And of course, my meal came with bottomless fries, which I enjoyed thoroughly! It was a great meal, and I was stuffed to the max.
We definitely enjoyed our dining experience at Red Robin. Our waiter was a pro, our food was delicious, and our outing was easy-breezy. It was one Rockin’ Robin time … OK, that was too cheesy … even for me!
