What’s the greatest thing since sliced bread?

Cookie dough. God bless the woman (Ruth Wakefield) who invented the American chocolate chip cookie, because then our childhoods — and adult lives — were graced with spoonfuls of dough before baking. This is assuming the oven gets utilized.

The caveat has always been, however, that pesky threat of salmonella. Not that it stopped any woman when she was in dire need of a fix. I judge not.

Though, along University Avenue in Provo is a new, simple shop that opened up this year eliminating the decades-long debacle.

Dulce serves cookie dough. It’s made without eggs, and therefore is safe for as much consumption as you can handle.

Adios cupcakes, we’ve entered a new dessert fad. Dulce’s cookie dough also happens to be a fairly cheap treat. Served up like ice cream in scoops, you can choose from small, medium, large or monster-size dishes with corresponding numbers of scoops. Though, to be fair, one scoop is fairly rich as it is.

While my best girlfriend and I did not sample the Cookie Dough Ice Cream Bowl or Cookie Dough Shake, they are on Dulce’s menu.

Instead, we simply took on the ambition of ordering every flavor of cookie dough Dulce served that night (minus Snickerdoodle, of which we regret nothing. I make no apologies for hating cinnamon’s existence.)

The lineup included Chocolate Chip, Oatmeal, Nutella Love, Peanut Butter Craving, Cookie Dough Monster, Triple Chocolate and Marshmallow Caramel Brownie.

Starting with Marshmallow Caramel Brownie, it definitely had a unique consistency compared to the others because of the additional caramel and marshmallow on top. It truly tasted like a thicker brownie batter. The Cookie Dough Monster looks like a birthday cake explosion. Colored blue, its base is sugar cookie dough with lots of sprinkles and colored chocolate bits added in.

The Chocolate Chip cookie dough tasted like it was straight out of the bowl at home, not just a rough replication. To me, chocolate chip is classic and king.

The Oatmeal cookie dough was also good, though adding in dry oats does tend to make the consistency of the dough a bit drier. Personally, I would have loved to have added in some pecans with a wetter dough.

The Nutella Love cookie dough was one of my favorites. The flavor tasted exactly like Nutella; it was spot on. The dough was smooth and just so good. It’s the one flavor I kept sneaking more bites of.

The Peanut Butter Craving was less dense than others. It was fluffy. It was stuffed with peanut butter cups and Reese’s Pieces. I’m confident it’s as peanut butter-filled as a treat can get. Every bite is just peanuts.

The Triple Chocolate flavor was perhaps the most underwhelming for me, though I’m not much of a chocolate fan. It was basic and had white chocolate chips sprinkled throughout.

There is also the option to add some toppings to the scoops of cookie dough: M&M’s, sprinkles, graham cracker crumbs or Reese’s Pieces. Dulce also has a few drinks and milk to purchase as well. It’s not a complicated or elaborate setup, but there is beauty in the simplicity. Cookie dough doesn’t have to be complex to taste wonderful, after all.

In case you were wondering, the two of us women didn’t manage to finish a single scoop in the one sitting, but it wasn’t for lack of desire or effort.
