The breadtwists are always a highlight of any visit to The Pizza Factory.

If a person goes to The Pizza Factory and somehow does not order the restaurant’s famous breadtwists, did the visit actually happen?

As far as age-old questions go, that would have to rank up among our favorites — right up there with the ones involving the sound trees make when falling in the forest and whether a male is still wrong when making a statement without a female around to correct him.

We guess that a person could actually visit The Pizza Factory without partaking of the signature breadtwists — however, the better question is why in the world would they? We certainly did not make that mistake during our recent sojourn to The Pizza Factory in Lindon. (There also are sister locations in Provo, Spanish Fork and Syracuse.)

Actually, we barely made it into the restaurant in time, arriving only 30 minutes before closing following a busy day/evening in the office. Luckily our group was able to snag a table in one section of the restaurant where there was just one other group dining. No harm, no foul, and we would still be able to get our breadtwist on.

The breadtwists come one to a stick — in easily tear-able portions. You can get them in two flavors: garlic Parmesan and cinnamon sugar. For a dollar extra you can opt for a dipping sauce, which come in the following flavors: ranch, marinara, alfredo, honey butter, sweet cream and cinnamon. We had the garlic Parmesan twists, and we’re sure that they would have been great with any one of several sauce flavors — but truth be told, they are so good by themselves that we just prefer them naked.

There are no shortage of opportunities to try the breadtwists either, as they come with a variety of menu items or can be ordered separately. Naturally, we highly recommend doing either.

There are numerous other great menu options as well — I mean, one can just look at the restaurant’s name and rightly assume that there will be some great pizza on the menu. Rather than build our own, we opted to sample a couple of the restaurant’s signature specialty creations. Our two choices were The Factory Deluxe and the Bar-B-Que Chicken.

The Factory Deluxe is basically a combo on steroids. There were so many ingredients on this one that my pen almost ran out of ink just writing them all down. The Factory Deluxe features a traditional crust with red sauce, and all of the following: ham, salami, pepperoni, sausage, beef, red onions, black olives, green peppers, mushrooms and, of course, cheese. These slices were not only delicious, but quite filling.

As good as the Factory Deluxe was, the Bar-B-Que Chicken was my personal favorite. Obviously, I’ve had various barbecue chicken pizzas before, but this version stands above many of the typical local offerings for several reasons. First, I loved that it comes with a deep dish crust. Second, while the chicken is seasoned, it didn’t necessarily come in a completely barbecued flavor by itself. This version made me realize that many local varieties — where the chicken pieces themselves do have a strong barbecue flavor — actually provide a bit of an overkill scenario. In this instance, there was plenty of barbecue flavor from the actual pizza sauce itself. You don’t necessarily need the chicken to provide that.

My third favorite thing about the Bar-B-Que Chicken pizza? Bacon! There are few things in life that are not made exponentially better by the addition of bacon, and this pizza offers further evidence to that line of thinking.

While several in our group enjoy taking our taste buds on exotic road trips and expanding our menu option horizons, a couple of our children prefer the simpler, tried-and-true dishes. My teenage daughter, for example, worships at the throne of pasta. She immediately selected a plate of fettuccine noodles topped with meat sauce. One of my younger sons latched onto bowtie pasta slathered with alfredo. Both options were delicious in their own right. For the record, there are eight different pastas to choose from (also including angel hair, linguini, whole wheat linguini, penne, vermicelli and spaghetti) as well as an equal number of sauces (which also feature classic pesto, creamy pesto, creamy cheddar, marinara, szechuan and garlic herb oil).

We would also like to give a shoutout to the strawberry lemonade, with the large chunks of strawberry that are almost impossible to suck up your straw. (I did say “almost.”) The addition of a little vanilla made it even better — but that might be chalked up to personal preference.

Pizza Factory has been around for a long time, and for good reason. It remains a go-to location for pizza, pasta, salads and calzones — and don’t forget the breadtwists!
