Macaroni Grill and Zaxby location close in Utah County
The restaurant business is notoriously a tough industry, and two recent closures in Provo and Lehi highlight this aspect.
Despite being in a highly traveled location, Zaxby’s at Thanksgiving Point in Lehi closed its doors Saturday — to the surprise of many regular customers. Lehi residents took to Facebook Sunday and Monday to comment on their sadness or indifference to the closure.
Eddie Farina, general manager at the American Fork Zaxby’s location said the Lehi location closed because the rent there was too high.
Macaroni Grill at The Shops at Riverwoods also closed recently. This closure follows a number of Macaroni Grill closures around the nation, including June and July closures in Texas, Delaware, New Jersey, Georgia, Michigan and Oklahoma.
The manager at the Murray Fashion Place Macaroni Grill location could not comment on the closure, and directed calls to the franchise’s corporate location. Holly Wagstaff, vice president of marketing for Macaroni Grill, did not respond to a request for information Monday.
Ignite Restaurant Group sold the chain to Phoenix-based Redrock Partners reportedly for $8 million in 2015.
