I knew Summit Inn Pizza would be my kind of place when the first song I heard blaring over the dining room sound system was “I Want You (She’s So Heavy)” by the Beatles.

It’s hard to go wrong with a combination of good pizza and great tunes.

The original Summit Inn Pizza opened up in Kamas in 1989. The brand is now spreading its wings, and debuted a new restaurant in December in the bustling new shopping, dining and business district on Traverse Parkway in Lehi. There’s a lot of diverse, intriguing restaurants opening up in that area, and Summit Inn Pizza is the latest to draw our attention.

There are large menus on the side wall, which proved very helpful, especially for first-time visitors like ourselves. You place your order at the front and then pick a table — there are 13 of them with a total seating capacity of near 80 inside — and wait for your food to arrive. Staff was courteous and very friendly.

Summit Inn specializes in, of course, pizza, but also offers a variety of sandwiches and salads. Take our advice, in addition to whatever else you order, definitely add a plate of Doodles to your plan. These are kind of an offshoot of cheesy bread, except in the shape of smaller cinnamon rolls. (You can in fact order a cinnamon roll version — called Cinnadoodles.) They can be dipped in either a super creamy ranch dressing or marinara sauce. When paired with the ranch dressing, the Doodles were simply amazing. Not only that, but when we ordered a dozen Doodles, our plate showed up with 14. What would that be — a baker’s dozen plus one? I know another apt description for it: entrapment!

Oh yeah, we did try several pizzas, too. We ordered the Dan’s Request (named after the owner), the Chicken Ranch Pizza and the Taco Pizza. Our favorite of that trio was the Dan’s Request. (Hey, want a pizza named after yourself? Start your own restaurant!) The Dan’s Request featured a nice, fluffy crust topped with pepperoni, Italian sausage, green pepper and red onion. This one was quite popular among our party of five.

We also enjoyed the Chicken Ranch Pizza, which came with its titular ingredients as well as mushrooms, red onion, bacon, and cheddar and mozzarella cheese. The pizza seemed just a tad dry after it came out of the oven, but we simply dipped it in the leftover creamy ranch dressing (from the Doodles) and it had just the right amount of ranch zing after that. The Taco Pizza includes a taco sauce with beef, red onion and mozzarella. After it is baked, it is topped with fresh lettuce, tomato and cheddar cheese.

Just for a little balance, we tried out the Turkey Bacon sandwich. This was a great choice, featuring turkey, bacon, lettuce, tomato, Havarti cheese and apple cider vinaigrette. It even came with a pickle spear on the side. Delicious!

Most of our party just ordered waters — those healthy imbibers! But, seeing a selection of specialty bottled sodas, I just had to opt for a Jackson Hole Soda root beer. I’m pretty sure I eyed several members of my party looking to slip a sip when they thought I wasn’t looking.

We found Summit Inn Pizza to be delightful all the way around — from the Beatles to our final bite. When it comes to Summit — if you’re up for the clime, then your curiosity should indeed be piqued.
