Popular Dalton’s Steakhouse opens second location in Lindon
Dalton’s Steakhouse has long been a fine-dining destination in Payson. Now diners from the north end of Utah County will have a more convenient opportunity to sample the restaurant’s upscale menu with a new site in Lindon.
The Lindon location, which took over the spacious digs that previously housed Galilee Grill and before that Wallabys, opened in September. Judging by our visit on Saturday evening, Dalton’s appears to be off to a rip-roaring start.
We arrived promptly at 6 p.m. and the place was hopping. The lobby was fairly full, but only kept accumulating more patrons as we waited. This despite several tables in view that were empty.
One thing we appreciated was a visit from the owner, unsolicited, to those waiting, explaining that they were attempting to stage things in a timely manner — and asking whether patrons preferred sitting tight in the lobby or if they would rather move to open tables, knowing it might take a few extra minutes to be served. Everyone opted to just wait in the lobby, but we found his visit informative and friendly, and it assuaged any unease from potentially antsy visitors.
In fact, after we were seated, we noticed the owner returning to the lobby with a plate of meat, of which pieces were shared with waiting diners. That was also a nice move.
We loved the spacious feel of dining room. There was quite a bit of space between tables, and the high ceilings also help add to the roomy ambiance. Another bonus was the performance of live music, with a man playing acoustic guitar and singing along to a few classics. So, after placing our order, we enjoyed listening and humming along to songs like “Cat’s in the Cradle,” “Landslide,” “Hey Hey, My My,” “Wish You Were Here” and “Turn the Page.”
It took nearly 25 minutes for the main portion of our food to start arriving, but we didn’t mind. A cup of Chicken Noodle Soup arrived first, and it offered noodles that were so smooth they almost melted in your mouth, carrot and celery slices and a savory broth.
As one might expect from a steakhouse, the prime rib is a specialty at Dalton’s — and for good reason. Even though we ordered the smaller cut, it was still plenty of meat for us to handle in one sitting. It had a great flavor and was a highlight of our meal.
The Motherlode Burger is well titled. It comes with Swiss cheese, grilled onions and mushrooms, and is topped with crispy bacon on homemade buns. This was definitely a mouthful.
We also sampled the Fish & Chips, which are battered cod filets. There were triangular-shaped potato wedges, which we think were the actual chips mentioned in the title, but they were buried in beer-battered fries — which we think were added by accident. (We found it odd, but didn’t mind in the least.)
There are a variety of sides, and you get a pair with most entrees, so we were able to try several options. One of my favorite items was the Fried Green Beans, which were battered. I enjoyed them, even to the point where you didn’t really recognize you were eating green beans — which I like anyway. I prefer onion rings that are slightly crunchy, but these were good even though they were somewhat soggy. The beer-battered fries and mashed potatoes were also well received.
There were many, many more items on the Dalton’s menu that we would love to sample on future visits. Now that there’s a second location, that should be easier to accomplish.
