From its menu of various savory, sweet and spicy Chinese and Thai dishes, several of which can be made gluten free, to its line of Japanese sushi rolls, it seems just about everyone could find something they like at Fong Asian Dining in American Fork.

Variety appears to be the name of the game at the family-owned Asian fusion restaurant, with affordability and efficiency coming in at a close second.

My party of four arrived at Fong Asian Dining around 6:30 p.m. for dinner, and we were seated right away. The servers were very attentive and quick to refill our water glasses throughout the night, always making sure we had everything we needed.

As we looked through the menu, we were impressed with the Bento Box option, which includes an entree and three sides for between $8.25-$12.25, with a variety of classic entrees and sides from which to choose. This offer proved too good to pass up, and all four of us ended up ordering a Bento Box, mixing and matching the entrees and sides to our liking.

We also ordered Lettuce Wraps as an appetizer, which came out first and were a delicious way to start off the meal. The crisp, wet textures of the lettuce leaves and water chestnuts complemented each other, and the savory chicken and green onion slices added a mouthwatering flavor, though in our opinion not quite as flavorful as the popular P.F. Chang’s equivalent. We ended up with a good amount of filling leftover after the lettuce was gone, but it still tasted great on its own.

My “classic” bento box included Orange Chicken, Pot Stickers, California Rolls and Lo Mein Noodles. I initially worried when I ordered this entree that the orange flavor might be too strong, as has been my experience at other Chinese restaurants. But I was pleasantly surprised with Fong Asian Dining’s interpretation, which I felt was the perfect blend of savory and sweet.

The California Rolls and Lo Mein Noodles sides were also satisfactory, albeit a bit plain. The crunchy texture of the Pot Stickers threw me off a bit, as I’m used to them being mostly soft and wet on the outside rather than fully fried, but the savory filling was flavorful and delicious.

Our other entrees included Cashew Chicken, General Tso Chicken with extra spice and Teriyaki Salmon, all of which we enjoyed thoroughly. The meat was well-cooked across the board and accompanied by unique and savory sauces. The chicken pieces in the Cashew Chicken were a little larger than we are accustomed to, but didn’t detract from the overall taste of the dish, and we loved the flavor and texture added by the raw cashews served on top.

Other sides among our order were Ham Fried Rice and a Vegetable Egg Roll, both satisfactory, with the latter’s perfectly fried, crunchy and flaky exterior a particular highlight.

We also ordered an Unagi sushi roll to share, which proved to be a fresh combination of cucumber and eel, served with sesame seeds and a drizzle of tasty brown eel sauce, which we scraped from the bottom of the plate with each bite down to the last delicious drop.

If you’re in the mood for choosing from a diverse offering of tasty Asian classics at a price that won’t break the bank, Fong Asian Dining in American Fork is a safe bet.
