I had the pleasure of finding myself on a sunny Sunday afternoon last week among the beautiful snowy slopes of Sundance Mountain Resort while covering the 2019 Sundance Film Festival.

Looking for a bite to eat following a film screening I had just attended at the resort, I wandered down the resort’s windy, picturesque pathways and stopped at the warm Sundance Deli for lunch, which proved to be a wonderful decision.

Sundance Deli offers an array of sandwiches, salads and soups that are easy to pack out on the go or enjoy there at the cozy indoor and outdoor tables. The deli also sells a variety of tasty snacks, including fruit and berry cups, chips and candy, which I took advantage of for the long day of festival coverage ahead of me.

The deli was busy during my visit, probably due to the weekend festival and winter sports traffic (not to mention the good food), so I had to wait for a while in line before I could order and again at the counter while everything was being prepared. But in the end, I thought the meal was top notch and well worth the wait.

For lunch, I ordered a Turkey Bacon Avocado sandwich — Sundance Deli’s most popular sandwich, according to my cashier — along with some raspberry lemonade, a cup of Tomato Basil soup and a chocolate dessert from the pastry case.

After gathering everything from the counter, I settled with my bag of food at a small, outdoor table, since all of the indoor tables were occupied. Although it was a little chilly outside in the shade, I enjoyed taking in the lovely snowy view and serene environment as I ate my lunch in nature.

The Turkey Bacon Avocado sandwich includes melted provolone cheese on sliced turkey with bacon, avocado, basil aioli, lettuce and tomatoes, all stacked between two thick slices of toasted sourdough bread. This sandwich was pretty hefty, but I loved its combination of savory and sweet flavors as well as crisp and soft textures.

Sundance Deli’s sandwiches cost $13-$15, but I was completely satisfied after eating half of my large Turkey Bacon Avocado sandwich and ended up saving the rest of it for later.

The deli’s raspberry lemonade was among the best I’ve ever had. I’m usually not a huge fan of lemonade because I have more of a sweet tooth and tend not to like the tart taste of many interpretations of the drink very much. But I enjoyed every last sip of this raspberry lemonade, which I thought was perfectly sweet, flavorful and refreshing.

The Tomato Basil soup was delightfully warm, and I couldn’t wait to dig in when I saw the tantalizing visible steam that escaped from the lid as I opened the container in the cold winter air. The soup was creamy, tangy and delicious, topped with chopped basil and shredded cheese.

I ended my meal on a sweet note with a few bites of a rich dessert that tasted to me like a dark chocolate mousse topped with ganache, surrounded with chocolate curls and topped with a fresh raspberry. I didn’t quite catch the name of the dessert, but I thought I heard one of the servers call it Chocolate Decadence, a title I feel perfectly describes this exquisite treat that more than thrilled my inner chocolate lover.

On all accounts, the ingredients tasted amazingly fresh, and I loved the homemade, high-quality feel of the food at Sundance Deli.

I would definitely recommend Sundance Deli as a great place to grab a bite to eat for anyone finding themselves at Sundance Mountain Resort or traveling through Provo Canyon. Or better yet, simply find an excuse to go there. The gorgeous scenery and delicious food are well worth the trip.
