Nazca Grill whips up flavor-packed Peruvian food in American Fork
If you ask me, Peruvian food is something everyone could use more of in their lives.
The unique, mouthwatering, savory flavors I tasted on my recent visit to Nazca Grill and Fusion Cuisine in American Fork reminded me I definitely don’t eat Peruvian food enough, or at least as much as I’d like to.
My party of four visited the restaurant on a cold, rainy night. The cozy yet spacious restaurant provided a welcome refuge from the weather outside, and we were seated and provided with menus right away.
When our waiter asked what we’d like to drink, we couldn’t resist asking for a bottle of Inca Kola, which, if you’ve never tried it before, is a sweet, yellow Peruvian soda that tastes to me like a very yummy cross between bubble gum and cream soda. The waiter brought out a few glasses and a cold two-liter bottle of Inca Kola, which we enjoyed sharing during our meal and then took home to drink the leftover soda later.
For an appetizer, we ordered Papa a la Huancaina, a dish I have tried before and come to love, and Nazca’s version did not disappoint. The chilled appetizer of soft potato slices topped with a delicious spicy cheese sauce and hard-boiled egg slice both looked and tasted beautiful.
For our entrees, we ordered Lomo Saltado, Bistek a lo Pobre and a Half Pollo a la Brasa, all of which our waiter said are among the restaurant’s most popular dishes, as well as Chicken Tallarin Saltado. Each dish offered a new and scrumptious combination of savory flavors paired with well-cooked, mouthwatering meats.
The Lomo Saltado, a vegetable stir-fry with beef tenderloin and served with rice, was probably my favorite dish in terms of flavor for its delicious, salty brown sauce. I also thoroughly enjoyed the Bistek a lo Pobre, a juicy ribeye steak cooked to order and served with a fried egg atop seasoned rice and fried plantains.
The Pollo a la Brasa, Peruvian-style rotisserie chicken served in quarter, half and whole portions, was also flavorful, served with a mustard-like dipping aji sauce and fresh salad topped with a citrusy dressing. I thought the Chicken Tallarin Saltado, stir-fry vegetables with noodles and meat, was also well executed and enjoyed the balance of al dente noodles, vegetables and chicken with the savory brown sauce.
The Lomo Saltado, Bistek a lo Pobre and Pollo a la Brasa all came with steak fries on the side. I’ve eaten Lomo Saltado elsewhere served with softer, thinner fries meant to be eaten along with the beef stir-fry mixture, and I think I enjoyed the dish a little more that way. But Nazca’s steak fries were good, could still be combined with the beef and vegetables, and tasted great with the sauce. We also asked for a bottle of ketchup and enjoyed most of the fries on their own that way.
Our waiter was friendly and made sure we were comfortable throughout our visit and enjoying our food, which we most definitely were thanks to the restaurant’s flavor-packed menu.
If you feel like something is missing in your life, you just might find it among the delicious Peruvian fare at Nazca Grill and Fusion Cuisine.
