Oregano Italian Kitchen in Provo announces closure

By Kari Kenner, Daily Herald - | Jun 7, 2019

Since 2015, Oregano Italian Kitchen has been bringing “traditional New York-style Italian cuisine” to Utah County with a hearty fan base that has followed it through multiple locations across Provo. Now, however, the Italian eatery is closing its doors to the public as of the end of the business day Saturday.

Oregano made the announcement Friday morning, noting the closure while also highlighting the awards it has received as well as the potential for a future sale.

“Restaurants are constantly in flux and it was time for a fresh look beyond a simple menu change,” the Facebook post shared. “The sale of the restaurant is sure to bring positive change. Being a successful, award winning restaurant concept the current ownership feels best leaving on a positive note.”

Oregano has been heralded under the direction of Le Cordon Bleu-trained Chef Chad Pritchard, who stayed on with the restaurant as Executive Chef and Creative Director after its acquisition by Oregano Italian, LLC in 2018. Recognition includes best in state for Italian restaurant, pasta and chef, with the post offering thanks for the years of service and positivity from those who have dined there.

As to the future, Pritchard will continue his position as Executive Chef and Creative Director of Fat Daddy’s Pizzeria, and will also head the kitchen in a new project coming to Pleasant Grove this fall.

“We’ve loved Oregano Italian Kitchen for all these years,” Pritchard told the Daily Herald Friday. “It’s apropos that we finish where we started. At the end, the ownership decided that it was in the best interest of the business to sell the operation. Personally, I look to new opportunities and new dishes. The new restaurant, which will be announced at a later date, where I will be working as Executive Chef, has a solid ownership group behind it. As part of my transition and hiring, they have agreed to honor Oregano gift cards and certificates. I am very excited and look forward to the future.”
