Yellowstone — the first national park in the country. This beautiful place has been a treasure for the country and the world. It is a place of diversity and beauty.

“Epic Yellowstone” looks at how the ecosystem in the park has been restored by reintroducing predators back into their homeland. Bill Pullman, a Montana native, narrates this stunning four-part story of the story of Yellowstone’s state of natural beauty and home to predators and prey.

The series premiered Sunday with “Epic Yellowstone: Fire & Ice” showcasing the beauty and splendor of the park. With its geysers, hot pools, peaks and valleys, Yellowstone is a destination for families from all around the country.

Episode 2, “Epic Yellowstone: Return of the Predators” (premiering Sunday) looks at the return of the wolves and grizzly bears. By bringing back these predators, the coyote population has been cut in half but that is a good thing for the park. There must be predators and prey together to keep the ecosystem in check.

The episode follows a mother bear who has given birth to many cubs over the years, and even quadruplets, which is why she is referred to as “Quad-Mom.” Her latest cubs are experiencing their first spring with mom closely monitoring their food. Will they be able to get enough before they must return to their hibernating cave? Most bear cubs won’t make it to their second spring, but Quad-Mom is a devoted mother that does a great job looking out for all her cubs. She is one of the bears responsible for building the grizzly population from its lowest point of 150 to now more than 700 of these amazing animals.

Then there is Black Tail, a lone wolf trying to find his way in the park. His only chance for survival is if he joins an established pack. But that proves to be challenging for this little fellow. In 1995 wolves were reintroduced into the park after a 70-year absence. The park rangers had killed them all, but the coyote population then exploded. Now with the wolves flourishing, the herds of both animals are back in check.

Episode 3, “Epic Yellowstone: Live on the Wing” premieres March 24. Besides the life we see on ground level — bison, wolves, bears, coyotes, etc. — there are plenty of flying birds that flock to the park seasonally. This episode looks at many of them as they migrate, mate and enjoy the life of this spectacular national park.

The series ends on March 31 with “Epic Yellowstone: Down the River Wild” in which the rivers and rapids of this area of the world are examined. The water is filled with waterfalls, water life and is an important element in this ecosystem we know as Yellowstone.

After watching this series, many families will undoubtedly pack up the car and head up to this magnificent jewel of the West. Yellowstone is a beautiful and educational place for families to explore nature and see the wonders of the flora and fauna.

“This project has been a long time in the making, documenting the awe-inspiring lives and natural splendor of Yellowstone over the past three years,” said Pullman. “I’ve long been aware of the incredible beauty of Yellowstone, so I’m thrilled to partner with Smithsonian Channel to bring this groundbreaking endeavor to viewers at home.”
