"Outer Range" premieres on Prime Video on Friday, April 15, 2022.The newest original drama on Prime Video is a strange, yet interesting and often confusing, story. “Outer Range” stars Josh Brolin in a series that belnds a little “Twin Peaks,” “Manifest” and “Lost” into one.
Brolin plays Wyoming rancher Royal Abbott who finds himself in the middle of an extraterrestrial phenomenon. At the edge of his ranch is a hole — with seemingly no bottom.
Lili Taylor is Cecilia, Royal’s wife. Their sons, Perry (Tom Pelphrey) and Rhett (Lewis Pullman) are all helping raise Perry’s daughter Amy (Olive Abercrombie) whose mother disappeared. While dealing with family issues and annoying neighbors, the Abbotts get intertwined with several events that could ruin their family for good.
Meanwhile, Wayne Tillerson (Will Patton), the neighboring rancher, is a wealthy and influential man in the town. Tillerson insists on buying a portion of the Abbott’s ranch. He knows there is something wonderful there, and he’ll stop at nothing to get it. His sons Luke (Shaun Sipos) and Billy (Noah Reid) follow their father’s lead every step of the way.
So, what is so interesting on this parcel of the Abbott’s ranch? The hole is mysterious and holds the key to strange events happening to the people and the area. This is a weird story with moments that harken to the best science-fiction TV has to offer. As viewers try to understand the significance of the black hole, they get pulled into the dynamics of both families. Tensions rise between the ranchers and, after another tragedy, everyone is on edge.
But the main question is simple. What does this phenomenon mean to the people and the region? And where did it come from?
For viewers attracted to the strangeness of “Twin Peaks” and “Lost,” this series should fill the same space in your TV diet. This series premieres Friday on Prime Video.
