"The Chelsea Detective" is streaming now on Acorn TV.Acorn TV’s new series “The Chelsea Detective” follows Detective Inspector Max Arnold as he solves mysteries in the affluent London-area suburb of Chelsea. Max lives on a dilapidated houseboat while going through a separation from his wife, Astrid. His partner is DC Shamsie, played by Sonita Henry, who just returned from maternity leave and has her own personal demons haunting her.
Both Max and Shamsie are easy-going and likable people. Max shuttles to most locations on his bicycle, and has a flair for understanding people.
The initial episode introduces the characters while Max and Shamsie unravel the strange death of a stonemason who fell on the platform of the subway — or tube as they call it — and was run over by a train. But did he fall? Or was he pushed? While investigating the man, they discover unusual and haunting messages that appeared on the mirror in his apartment prior to his death.
While the characters are being fleshed out in this first episode, Max’s down-to-earth demeanor is what viewers will enjoy. The only thing he wants from his old house is his beloved coffee maker.
The characters are interesting and worth watching and the stories are intriguing, bringing another noteworthy detective show to the streaming channel. What Acorn TV is noted for is its bold selection of characters that grab viewers’ attention and “The Chelsea Detective” definitely does that.
Episode 1 premiered Monday, and will be followed by three consecutive Monday premieres. The series is mostly dramatic with spots of levity. The interpersonal relationships between the characters add immensely to the overall enjoyment.
