"Animals Up Close with Bertie Gregory" is streaming on Disney+.

Travel around the world with Bertie Gregory in “Animals Up Close” as he searches for amazing animals and learn firsthand how they survive. With state-of-the-art cameras and technology including drones, Bertie and his team see how the ecosystem works as the animals take on their predators and live in some very unfriendly environments.

The hunting styles of various species are unique and as viewers see in the episode about Antarctic killer whales, they use their intelligence to work together to survive. Unfortunately, other animals are not victorious and become the prey; however, it is enlightening to see the intelligence of these great mammals. Wave washing is unique to these whales. Haven’t heard of it? Well, you’re in for a surprise as Gregory was able to capture many incidences of how the killer whales create waves to dislodge seals from the ice where they are resting. This group of whales are known as B1s, and their intelligence and cunning is amazing to watch. It’s not for the faint of heart though, as many seals are not victorious in outwitting the immense mammals. Nevertheless, the sheer determination and intelligence of both the whales and the seals is something to admire.

In the episode “Galapagos Marvels,” Gregory shows viewers how fish are corralled into a cove by sea lions to become dinner for them as well as other animals including birds. It’s another ingenious way of catching dinner and quite interesting to watch.

Gregory is an award-winning cinematographer who brought us “Seven Worlds, One Planet” and “Epic Adventures.” In this new series, he takes viewers to areas of the planet that might be new to many viewers, and he also brings extraordinary animals to the screen to be seen in their everyday lives. From Antarctica to Africa to South America to Asia, the lives of a variety of animals are brought to the viewers in a unique way that not only entertains but also educates. The more we learn about life on the planet, the more we can help save the delicate ecosystems and the animals that make up this extraordinary blue ball we know as Earth. It’s our home, but it is also the home to these magnificent animals.

As viewers see the challenges, threats and rivalries animals must learn to live with, not to mention much of their cuteness, the fascination with their intellects and cunning grows. Gregory brings viewers up close and sometimes very personal with many of the animals. Whether he is in the frigid waters of the Antarctic or a snowy mountain, he always delivers a great episode filled with back stories and interesting animal behavior.

“Animals Up Close with Bertie Gregory” is now streaming on Disney+. For anyone interested in how the planet works and how the residents survive and live, this is the show to watch.
