“Towards Zero” premiered April 16, 2025, and is available to stream on BritBox.

Set in England in 1936, “Towards Zero” is another Agatha Christie mystery that has viewers wondering who the killer — or killers — are in this explosive story. Matthew Rhys, Oliver Jackson-Cohen, Ella Lily Hyland and Angelica Huston are among the actors playing out this intriguing story.

The film begins with the high-profile divorce of a tennis star Neil Strange and his wife Audrey (Jackson-Cohen and Hyland) as they take to the witness stand. Audrey has accused Nevile of adultery with a woman named Kay (Mimi Keane). There is the obvious denial then a confession. When the divorce is finalized, Kay becomes the new Mrs. Strange and is enchanted with the wealth and celebrity that comes with that status in life.

Then Nevile’s aunt, Lady Tressilian (Huston), invites the group to their childhood home on a beautiful seaside estate at Gull’s Point. Audrey had been part of the family since her childhood so it was also her home as well as Nevile ‘s.

Audrey was not supposed to be there the same time as Nevile and Kay however Nevile decided they all needed the time together to be friends, not enemies. This doesn’t sit well with Kay but she goes along with it. And Lady Tressilian is baffled by the situation but decides to let it play out.

Once they all get to costal estate things start to unravel. First, Lady Tressilian’s longtime companion Mary (Anjana Vasan) invites her penpal Thomas Royde to the estate. Thomas has been managing a plantation in America but has some unfinished business with Lady Tressilian, unbeknownst to Mary who has befriended him in a long string of letters over the years. As his story unfolds, another story threads its way through the film. Mac (Adam Hugill) is Nevile’s new butler but he has a secret that will surprise everyone.

Throughout it all, the family attorney Frederick Treves (Clarke Peters) sees things unraveling in this household. And when Lady Tressilian asks him to make a new will, things really get stressful.

Across the water from the estate is a hotel where people meet to have fun, drink and dance. Nevile, Kay, Audrey and the gang go over there one night and are joined by Louis Morel (Khalil Ben Gharbia), a Frenchman who seems too close to Kay to be a new acquaintance. Viewers know he is a con man with something up his sleeve.

Add to this varied group a young orphan who is being looked after by Treves, and the group is basically complete. There is, however, one more character that enters this story. Inspector Leach (Matthew Rhys) is a troubled man but a good police detective. His skills will come in handy as not one but two murders are committed in house and the only suspects are those who are there: Nevile, Kay, Audrey, Mary, Thomas, Mac and Louis.

As Leach weaves their stories together and recreates the crimes in his head, things start to make sense to him. With one tumultuous love triangle, a French con man and disgruntled employees, there has to be a reason the two victims were murdered.

There are three hourlong episodes in this miniseries mystery that was co-written by Christie and taken from her novel.
