The Faithful Women of the BibleThe new mini-series from Fox, “The Faithful: Women of the Bible,” brings the stories of Sarah and Hagar, Rebekah, and Leah and Rachel to viewers in an epic way – through their own voices. Watching these stories unfold brings these Biblical matriarchs to life. Their stories are engaging and just what is needed in this time of stress.
Carol Mendelsohn, the executive producer of this epic series, said, “In ’The Faithful,’ we meet our women at the beginning of their journeys and follow them through hardship, sacrifice, triumph, and loss — until they come face-to-face with destiny.”
The first episode tells the story of Sarah (Minnie Driver) and Hagar (Natacha Karam) as they join together to raise a family with Abraham.
Abraham has heard directly from God. Instructed to leave their home and journey out across the desert, Abraham was also told he will have a son. But when Sarah was unable to produce a child, she asked the former Egyptian slave Hagar to bear Abraham’s child. However, as God had promised, Sarah eventually did produce a child, and the heritage began.
As she explained, the stories of these remarkable women have mainly been seen through the eyes of the men who began the stories: Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. Now viewers see the lives these women lived and their personal contributions to history.
“We filmed ’The Faithful’ in and around Rome in 2025, grounding our production in a landscape steeped in history. Working alongside a panel of theologians, we ensured the scripts honored the biblical texts while bringing emotional immediacy to the screen. And our extraordinary cast and crew committed to building a world that feels both epic and intimate.”
The second episode focuses on Rebekah (Alexa Davalos). This kind-hearted woman became Isaac’s wife and her story is just as emotional as that of Sarah.
The birth of their twins, Esau and Jacob, brings conflict to their family. The Covenant is destined for Jacob, but Isaac feels it should go to Esau, pitting the brothers against each other, as well as Rebekah and Isaac. The third episode is the story of Leah (Millie Brady) and Rachel (Blu Hunt). Sibling rivalry, jealousy, deception, and courage are at the heart of this story about the two sisters whose lives have imparted great empathy.
This series is a way for families to experience the Bible in a way that brings these women to light. All of the women led extraordinary lives and serve as the foundation of the Bible. The series is engaging and worthy of viewing.
Jeffrey Donovan is Abraham, Tom Mison is Isaac, and Tom Payne is Jacob.
If you missed this epic series when it aired on FOX, all three episodes are now available to stream on HULU. Being able to stream them is optimal, as families can view the episodes over consecutive nights, creating a nice family evening event.
