You're Killing Me is streaming on Acorn TV.

Brooke Shields executive produces and stars in the new crime drama “You’re Killing Me.” Shields plays bestselling romance/crime novelist Allison Chandler.

Allie lives in a picturesque New England town where she is a local celebrity as well as the outgoing honorary mayor. But the murders and mysteries are not relegated only to her novels. Each episode involves Allie getting involved in a new murder in this previously quiet little community.

In the initial episode, Allie meets Andrea Walker (Amalia Williamson), who professes to be a top true crime podcaster but is only really aspiring in that field. She also wants to be a writer like Allie. The two are like oil and water. She is savvy and literate in all the latest technology, whereas Allie likes to do things the old fashioned way. They soon find themselves working together – to Allie’s chagrin – to solve the murder of Allie’s friend who “fell” out of a window.

They begin to look into this case, they are sure it was murder and not suicide or an accident. As the two delve into the circumstances of the murder, they play off each other, moving their investigation along at a quick pace. Alone, the crime is not easily solved, but when they put their heads together, they lead the police to the murderer.

Tom Cavanagh is Jack Kerrigan, the new police detective. Initially he is annoyed by the interference of the two “wanna be” detectives, however he cannot deny their input is valuable.

As the episodes unfold, Allie and Andi learn to work together, as one after another a murder occurs in this quiet little town. Their annoyance with each other bubbles to the surface, but their mutual admiration and even respect for each other’s talents propel them forward.

As Jack learns how to slow down his life after coming from the city to a sleepy town, he also finds both women not only helpful in his investigations, but also good company. And there is no denying Allie’s instincts are always, well almost always, spot on.

The three of them work seamlessly throughout the six episodes of the first season. There are plenty of ups and downs though. Romantic relationships come into play as Allie, who has feelings for Jack, decides to let herself go, but not with him. After several failed marriages, Allie is gun-shy, so to speak, but rest assured, she will get her confidence back and give into her true feelings.

And Andi is attracted to a local policeman, however she ends up having a brief fling with (no spoiler, sorry.)

Gabriel Burrafato plays Norman Baights who, although has basically the same name as the infamous movie character, turns out to be a great help to the team. He is Allie’s number one fan who knows every word of her novels and collects every artifact that has come into play in her stories. He might seem crazy, to put it mildly, but he is a nice guy who idolizes Allie.

There are several other characters that lend themselves to the colorful dramedy in this quaint little town. With only six episodes in the season, fans will most likely desire a renewal, however as yet there has been no decision on that front.

The series is set in New England, however the production was shot in Halifax, Nova Scotia.

“You’re Killing Me” is streaming on Acorn TV, with the season finale dropping June 22. The series has been renewed for a second season.

Starting at $4.32/week.
