Monday night kicked off the two-and-a-half-week run of “The Musical Adventures of Flat Stanley” at the SCERA Center for the Arts. With shows every Monday and Friday night, this is a show you won’t want to miss as it’s the perfect night of fun. The show is also running a matinee performance during the week at 10 a.m. for schools looking for a fun activity for students that can introduce them to the world of theater. The matinee school showings also include a question-and-answer session for the students to participate in after the show.

The show stars Benjamin Hansen as Stanley. Hansen, from Ucon, Idaho, who is studying at Brigham Young University, is making his SCERA debut with this show. Performing alongside him is Koen Greene as his brother Arthur. Greene is also the assistant director to the show and is a member of the Rise Up Children’s Choir. The musical follows the life of Stanley after making a wish to travel the world, which results in him becoming flat. The musical is fun for families of all ages, and with a great amount of talent, jokes and an interactive set design, there is something for everyone.

Hansen had great vocals in the show and did an impressive job of harmonizing with his fellow cast mates. There were fun dance numbers and all of the songs were super catchy. It was hard not to dance along in your seat. Throughout the show, the cast demonstrated a lot of talent and it was easy for the audience to see that the cast was enjoying themselves on stage.

The musical is an hour long, which is a perfect amount of time to build a good storyline while keeping it short for the younger audience members. Director Brodee Ripple did a fantastic job with this musical as he made his directorial debut. The stage design and setup flowed well with the music and dialog and did a great job of creating an entertaining and engaging show for not only young audience members but for the older ones as well. Be sure to grab a program when you go as there is a cut-out of Flat Stanley so audience members can take home their very own character to take on adventures with them.

With shows for the public every Monday and Friday evening, it is the perfect opportunity to experience the great local talent that Utah County has to offer. Tickets can be bought online, over the phone or in person between 10 a.m. and 6 p.m. With more shows coming this winter, there is something for everyone at the SCERA theater.
