Hobble Creek Canyon — a destination worth the journey

By Staff | Jun 5, 2016

The Franciscan priests Dominguez and Escalante famously explored Hobble Creek Canyon, above present day Springville, in 1776.

Native Timpanogos guides joined the expedition as they returned to Sante Fe. Ettienne Provost, the French-Canadian trapper for whom the city of Provo is named, preceded Jim Bridger and Jedediah Smith; all of whom explored and worked the canyon before Mormon pioneers settled the area in 1847. Each was drawn to the unique beauty and extraordinary features of the area.

Today, Hobble Creek Canyon is just as beautiful as it was then, and the beaver, fox, cougars and bear that drew early trappers still call the canyon home — as do the movers and shakers of present day Utah County.

In 1861, the Homestead Act allowed the canyon to be permanently settled in 160-acre parcels. Today, Hobble Creek Canyon is home to similar sized and much larger estate properties, with immaculate homes replacing those earliest ranch cabins.

The Cottages at Hobble Creek offers enjoyment of all the canyon’s natural amenities but without the necessity of having a ranch-sized parcel. Here are three great reasons to explore this great canyon community:

1. Privacy

The Cottages at Hobble Creek is located approximately 10 miles from Springville. Close enough to enjoy all of the shopping, museums and dining that Springville and Provo have to offer yet far enough away to enjoy clear, starry nightscapes at an elevation of nearly 5,700 feet.

With 35 (approximately one acre each) lots, the community provides a sanctuary nestled on a pleasing plateau with unobstructed 360-degree views. The soothing sounds of stream waters (at the back side of most lots) can be especially enjoyed in the springtime.

2. Security and serenity

The discerning few who call the Cottages at Hobble Creek home enjoy the security of a gated community coupled with kindred spirits who value the peace and serenity of rural mountain living. Quiet summer nights spent alone or with treasured family and friends are unencumbered by city noise and distractions.

Ralph Waldo Emerson said it best, “The influence of fine scenery, the presence of mountains appeases our irritations and elevates our friendships.”

3. Adventure

Whether exploring the canyon’s miles of hiking, biking and snowshoeing trails or wildlife watching in your own backyard, the Cottages at Hobble Creek provides plenty of recreational variety. If snowshoeing and hiking seem tame, your ATV can literally take off from your doorstep.

Hobble Creek Golf Course is just a five-minute drive down the canyon, while Sundance Resort is the nearest of several Utah ski and summer resorts. Fishing and high-country camping are all within minutes.

This is year-round mountain living where you can enjoy the best of all that Utah’s outdoor lifestyle has to offer.

If you’ve considered taking a road less traveled and want to enjoy life from a higher viewpoint, the Cottages at Hobble Creek is just the place for you.
