Donald James Grothe Donald James Grothe, 39, beloved husband, father, son and brother, passed away Wednesday August 24, 2005, Provo, Utah. Don was born in Pocatello, Idaho on October 14, 1965 to Carole Jean and Donald John Grothe. Don spent the first 14 years of his life in Southern California and loved the beach. The family moved to Idaho in 1979 and to Pleasant Grove, Utah in 1981. He Attended Pleasant Grove Jr. and Senior High Schools where he was active in the baseball programs, and excelled in pitching. He attended UVSC and the Peace Officer Standards and Training where he received the highest academic achievement award. Don was employed by Alta City as a sheriff and Provo City Police Department, where he was a member of the SWAT team, a field training officer (FTO), and a department detective. Most recently he has been employed by IHC. Don made friends everywhere he went and on occasion you could find him at a restaurant with a homeless person who just needed a hot meal. He had a love of the outdoors. He loved to compose original music and lyrics. He loved Yellowstone and often took his family on trips to look for wolves and grizzly bears. Fishing has been a part of his life since early childhood, participating in family outings where his Dad taught him to fly fish. Don married Vivian Lynette Thomas on September 1, 1990 in the Salt Lake Temple. They have enjoyed raising their two sons, Landon James, 14, and Daniel Glen 11. He was a loving husband and father, son, brother. Don is survived by his wife Vivian and their sons Landon and Daniel of Provo, UT; Parents Don and Carole Grothe One Sister Kimberly (Eric) Dunn and one brother Gregory (Jennifer) Grothe; Grandparents Helen and James Starr, all of Pleasant Grove, UT, and numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday August 30, 2005 11:00 a.m. at the Lakeside Stake Center, 2801 West 620 North, Provo, Utah. Friends are calling on Monday evening August 29, 2005, from 6-8 p.m. at Berg Mortuary 185 East Center Street, Provo, UT also at the church on Tuesday morning from 9:30 Ð 10:45 a.m. Interment will be in the American Fork City Cemetery. Don died accidentally while fly fishing in the Provo River. While he leaves a void in our lives, we take comfort in knowing he died doing what he loved.
