Edith Clark

Oveson

Edith Clark Oveson, our beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister and aunt, returned home peacefully March 29, 2007 in Santaquin, Utah. She was born April 17, 1918 in Monroe, Utah to Dr. James Cecil Clark and Laura Clark Clark, the sixth of nine children.

Mom’s family moved to Provo when she was three years old, where she lived for the remainder of her life. She graduated from Provo High School and attended Brigham Young University. She married Melvin Jarvis Oveson and their marriage was later solemnized in the Provo Temple.

A faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, she served joyfully in numerous capacities including Primary and Relief Society President. Her heart always held a special fondness for Primary music. She worked for many years as a dental assistant to her brothers, Albert and DaCosta. Her true occupation, however, was that of wife and mother, and she excelled at being both. She found great joy in caring for her family and filled their lives with delight as she made everything from camping to holidays treasured family traditions. She especially loved spending time with her grandchildren and showing them her love. They love their Grammy, too.

She enjoyed cooking and developed her unmatched skills into a fine art. A talented artist, she loved to create beautiful things and made lovely porcelain dolls. She was also a member of the Daughters of the Utah Pioneers. She selflessly served everyone, family or not, with a Christ-like love that we all cherish. Although she spent her later years in uncomfortable circumstance, she seldom complained and always thought of the welfare of others first. We love you, Mom, and will cherish our memories with you as we strive to live up to your legacy.

Mom is survived by her loving husband, Melvin, Provo; and children Judy Prestwich Brooks, Salt Lake City; Cady (Lonnie) Gleave, Orem; David (Geraldine) Oveson, Sandy; Janet (Ray) Pickup, South Jordan; Dr. Mark (Inger) Oveson, Nephi; 19 grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; and three great, great grandchildren. She is also survived by her brother, Dr. Riley Clark and sisters, Margaret Hutchings and Barbara (William E.) Cooper; and many nieces and nephews.

The family would like to express our deep gratitude to those who so lovingly cared for her at Latterdays Assisted Living in Santaquin and at the Central Valley Hospital in Nephi.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, April 4, 2007 at 11:00 a.m. in the Provo 15th Ward Chapel, 85th South 900 East, Friends and family may call Tuesday, April 3, 2007 from 6-8 p.m. at Berg Mortuary, 185 E.
