CEU hands Lady Badgers heartbreak
PRICE– The Lady Badgers were hoping to get back on the winning track when they traveled across the state to take on the College of Eastern Utah (CEU), Price.
It was a team that Snow College was able to defeat in two prior meetings. Unfortunately, Snow was unable to get back on the winning path dropping two games this past weekend.
Snow started slowly in game one as they faced a 15 point deficit as the two teams headed into halftime. Snow trailed 43-28.
In the first half of action the Golden Eagles shot a whopping 54.8 percent of the field, which was 16 percent more than their season average.
Leading the scoring charge for the night for CEU was Elisha Harris and Stacie Little with 15 apiece.
Little also helped spark a 47-39 rebounding advantage for CEU as she pulled in an incredible 17 boards including eight on the offensive end.
Snow, however, was able to battle back in the second half, forcing the game’s decision to be decided in the closing minutes. In the end Snow was unable to close the game while suffering a 74-71 defeat.
Snow was led by Kim Gamblin who posted a double-double while scoring 16 and pulling down 11 rebounds. The game’s top scorer was Chelsey Brown who added 17 for the Lady Badgers.
The Lady Badgers played a tough, resilient game on Saturday night, but came away on the losing end to their in-state rival. Game two mirrored game one in many ways as Snow fell by three points again, 75-72.
Snow was able to start fast which placed the Golden Eagles on their heels early on while building a 16-5 lead. Snow was able to maintain that lead through the remainder of the firstst half as they took a 42-34 lead into the break.
Coming out of the intermission, CEU came out firing and quickly cut into Snow’s lead while eventually taking the lead for themselves. Eastern Utah used a 15-4 run to start the second half.
As the teams battled back and forth, there were multiple lead changes in the final ten minutes of the game. Snow looked like they were in a great deal of trouble as they trailed 74-69 with only 1:20 to play.
Lindsie Wilson, however, was able to deliver a big three-point shot, which cut the lead to two. On the defensive end, Snow was able to come up with a defensive stop that gave a scoring chance with just under thirty seconds to play.
Snow College missed a lay-up and had another shot rim in-and-out forcing a defensive foul after CEU had grabbed a rebound.
Golden Eagle center, Stacie Little, made only 1-2 free throw attempts, which enable the Lady Badgers to have one final attempt to send the game into overtime.
A quick turnover followed by CEU running out the clock ended their hope as Snow suffered a major heartbreak.
Snow takes the floor again this weekend and will be at home. They host the College of Southern Idaho on Friday and Saturday, Feb. 23 and 24.
