MT. PLEASANT– Congratulations are in order for four of North Sanpete’s hoop stars from this past year as they were awarded honorable mention in the Deseret News for their efforts.
The girl’s basketball team placed three players in the paper including both senior guards, Fairview’s Aubree Poulson and Fountain Green’s Laney Jacobsen. Also honored from Fountain Green was the team’s post player, Erika May.
Aubree Poulson was the spark plug for the Lady Hawk engine as she ran the offense for Coach Cheryl Hadley. Poulson’s job was to get the ball up the floor, usually against full-court pressure and get her team in position to score. She also averaged over six points per game.
Her backcourt mate, Laney Jacobson was a three-point specialist and was second in all of 3A as she averaged two makes from beyond the arc per game. Laney averaged over nine points per game.
Coach Hadley could count on a consistent double-double from junior Erika May. The post player was often outsized under the basket but still worked to average over 12 points in each game and also had 11 rebounds.
On the boy’s team, center Russell Christensen was placed on the team. Russell averaged a double-double for Coach Bull Keisel. The junior post player could score from inside and outside and ended the season with over 13 points per game as well as over 10 rebounds.
