Keith Douglas Bassett

Keith Douglas Bassett, age 59, our husband, father, and friend, passed away May 19, 2010 at his home in Mona, Utah.

He was born August 28, 1950 in Gridley, California to Robert James Bassett Sr. and Norma Boeslund Nielsen. He married Arlene Chapman March 29, 1974 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple.

He graduated from Yuba City High School and Shasta College (Redding, CA) where he played baseball and learned his love for the San Francisco Giants. He later played semi-professional baseball. He earned a Masters degree from Brigham Young University and a Ph.D. from the University of New Mexico. He taught for the LDS Church Education System in Arizona, California, and Utah. At the time of his death he taught at the Utah Valley University Orem Institute, where he enjoyed all his students. He loved the Book of Mormon, which lead him to publish several books (Latter-Day Commentary on The Book of Mormon, Latter-Day Commentary on the New Testament, Commentary on Isaiah: In the Book of Mormon, Doctrinal Insights to the Book of Mormon, Eternal Nature of the Body, Life lessons from the Book of Mormon, Kisses at the Window, The Barber’s Song, and How to Lengthen Your Stride without Getting a Hernia). He excelled in all sports. He loved the outdoors, especially using his chain saw, and to organize wood cutting projects.

Survived by his wife Arlene of Mona; children, Preston, Spencer (Nancy), Aubrey (Jacob) Carter, Blaine (Krystle), Jacob, Joanna, and Nathan; grandchildren, Kyle, Isabelle, Neil, and Dallin; mother, Norma Bassett (David) Cahill; brothers, Bob (Jovita), and Dennis (Melanie); sister-in-law, Collette. Preceded in death by a son, Boyd; father, Robert Bassett Sr.; brother Niels.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, May 26, 2010 in the Nephi North Stake Center, 1125 North 400 East. Family and friends may call Tuesday evening from 6-8 p.m. at the Anderson Funeral Home, 94 West 300 North Nephi and at the church from 9:45-10:45 a.m. prior to the services. Interment will be in the Mona Cemetery. In lieu of flowers please make donations to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.
