Grab a Summer Pass
If it’s convenient, no-thinking-required summer fun you’re looking for to keep your kids busy and entertained for the next few months, try getting a pass somewhere.
There are lots of options out there for family or individual season passes for unlimited fun during the summer. And that means no wondering where to go, what to do, or how much it’s going to be. It’s all covered.
Check out these venues that offer passes — both seasonal and year-round — for family fun.
A splash of fun
Nothing says summer like spending all those hot days at the pool. Diving for rings, cannonballs off the diving board and a little game of “Marco? Polo!” are what the lazy days of summer are all about. City pools around the valley offer season passes or punch passes available for families and individuals. If you have a swim bag at the ready, you can just build a trip to the pool into your weekly routine, like piano lessons or grocery shopping. In my swim bag I like to have snacks like crackers, water, and granola bars; towels; sunscreen and a flat sheet to sit on (it dries quickly and is lightweight).
And what kid is going to say “no” to swimming?
Give thanks (for Thanksgiving Point family passes)
The family destination spot in Lehi has had Family Memberships for a few years now. The passes get you into all of the venues, plus give you discounts on stores there. But new to their membership offerings are passes for couples and grandparents. Memberships are good for one year, and come with free admission to all venues, and feel free to bring along friends and extended family, because guests in your group will receive 50 percent off admission. Thanksgiving Point also has members-only events and members get a discount on signature events. The membership is also an ASTC Reciprocal Membership, which provides free admission to more than 300 museums and science centers nationwide. So if you find yourself in a strange town with nothing to do, your Thanksgiving Point membership will probably get you into a nearby museum. And because Thanksgiving Point is a charity, the membership fee is tax-deductible.
Here’s a run-down on the memberships:
- Family: Two adults living in the same household and their dependent children, $175.
- Grandparents: Two grandparents and their grandchildren, $175.
- Duo: Two named individuals, $110.
- Individual: One primary card holder, $55.
- Bonus Family: Adds early notification and registration for camps, classes, events and other programs; recognition on Thanksgiving Point’s annual donor wall, $250.
- Premier Family: Adds the Bonus Family perks plus a kid-friendly guided tour of the Thanksgiving Point venue of your choice, one free Thanksgiving Point birthday party ($175 value) and invitations to exclusive family-friendly Premier Family Membership events, $500.

If you believe that variety is the spice of life, then the Pass of All Passes is for you. This individual pass is like getting a key to the city — or half the county, and half of Salt Lake County. This year-long pass has water parks, fun centers, sporting events and other venues attached to it for a year’s worth of fun at all sorts of places. The pass is available online at www.sevenpeaks.com and is good for admission to the following venues:
- Seven Peaks Water Park Provo
- Seven Peaks Water Park Salt Lake
- Trafalga Fun Center Lehi
- Peaks Ice Arena
- Utah Blaze Arena Football
- Owls Baseball
- Raptors Baseball
- Utah Valley University Sports
- Wolf Mountain Ski Resort
- Plus select Salt Lake Bees, Real Salt Lake and Tracy Aviary admission.
Spend the summer cheering on local athletes, driving around the slick track, hitting the batting cages or getting some sun at the water parks. Or beat the heat with a little ice skating at the Peaks. It’s all on the Pass of All Passes.
Provo Beach Resort
While there are a lot of fun centers, Provo Beach Resort at The Shops at Riverwoods takes the arcade and activity center and puts a little twist on it. And new to the resort are Endless Summer Passports, which are good for an entire year of beach fun, not just the three months of summer.
While there’s a lot of places to miniature golf, Provo Beach Resort offers Miniature Croquet and a Ropes Course, which is located ON THE CEILING. It’s also home to one of two Utah County Flowriders, a continuous wave indoors to satiate your appetite for surfing and body boarding.
The pass offers unlimited access to the Ropes Course, Miniature Croquet, Mega Plex Playground, Pinewood Derby Track time and Carousel. Plus, it includes one free Flowrider session and 10 percent off each additional Flowrider session, and several daily plays: One game of bowling and mini bowling, two carnival games, one-hour session in the PGA Golf Simulators and two plays at Lazer Frenzy.
The pass also includes special bonuses such as an ice cream cone, a beach cruiser bike rental and discounts on concessions and other products sold at the resort. The pass breaks out to about $8 a month. Visit www.provobeachresort.com for more information or to buy online.
More options
If you spend a lot of time up north, there are a few options that might interest you. First, Lagoon Season Passport. It’s still early enough in the year to make buying one totally worth it. Get a few people together when you buy, and you’ll get a discount. Then you can spread out all that roller coaster fun over the whole summer instead of packing it into just one day. It’s too hot? It’s raining? Someone woke up with the flu? No worries, you can just go another day.
If that’s too much adrenaline, try Visit Salt Lake’s Connect Passes. These passes are available in one-, two-, and three-day increments, or a full year. Thirteen different venues are included, such as Utah’s Hogle Zoo, This Is the Place Heritage Park, Discovery Gateway, Clark Planetarium, The Living Planet Aquarium, Thanksgiving Point, Snowbird Ski & Summer Resort, Lion House Pantry Restaurant, Natural History Museum of Utah, The Leonardo, Red Butte Garden, Tracy Aviary and Utah Olympic Park. Each pass is good for one entrance into each of the 13 attractions.
