Robert L. Hamblin, Ph.D. passed away Thursday, October 25, 2012 surrounded by loving family. He was 85 year old.

Robert, son of Lee and Mary Hamblin, was born April 5th, 1927.

Elder Hamblin served as a missionary for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Samoa. While studying at Brigham Young University, he married Mary June Adams. Together they raised five children.

Devoted to the gospel of Jesus Christ, Robert served in bishoprics, Stake presidencies, High Councils, and in the Mesa Temple in the 1980’s.

Dr. Hamblin authored numerous papers and books on mathematical sociology and was Dept. Chair at Washington University, in St. Louis, Mo. He also taught at Harvard and Oxford before retiring from the University of Arizona in 1993.

Robert and June divorced in 1991. Afterwards he married Renee Easton Olsen. Renee, who was much beloved and admired by family and friends, died in 2000.

Later that year, Robert married Chamisa Howard in the St. George Temple. They amicably divorced in 2004.

After living alone for the next 5 years, Robert married Libby Hansen. A devoted mother and grandmother, Libby’s faithful, gracious manner brought great happiness to our father in his remaining years. They moved to Scottsdale, Arizona, in 2011.

Robert is survived by his wife, Libya Hamblin, his former wife, Mary June Adams Hamblin of Provo Utah, Chamisa Howard Morris of LaVerkin, Utah and five children. These include Carol Dangerfield, of Gilbert, Arizona; David Hamblin of Provo, Utah; Steven Hamblin of Tucson, Arizona; Susan Christensen of Provo, Utah; and Krii Tuttle of Spanish Fork, Utah. He has 31 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren.

Services will be heldon Friday Nov. 9 at the Desert Mountain Ward, 9565 E. Larkspur Dr. Scottsdale, AZ 85260. A viewing is at 11:00 am followed by a funeral service at noon. Robert will be interned at Cave Creek Veterans Cemetery.
