Douglas Maurice Hood

1939 ~ 2013

Douglas Maurice Hood, Husband, Father, Grandfather and friend, passed away January 3, 2013, after he fought long and diligently to get well, and stay with the family that he loved. He was born March 9, 1939 in Clare, Iowa to Fergus Benjamin and Dorthea Maurice Burns Hood. He married Paulette Hogue on May 16, 1964.

Doug was raised in Southern California. He was a member of the Catholic Church, and attended Parochial school. He ran away from home, joined the United States Coast Guard at the age of 17, and was stationed in Alameda, California. He achieved the rank of 2nd Lieutenant and received The Good Conduct Medal, and was honorably discharged in 1963.

Doug had a very strong work ethic. He worked as the Foreman for Redman Oil Refinery in Torrance, California for many years, before moving to Utah. After moving here, he worked for Stones Diesel in Salem, UT. He lived in Spring Lake with his family for the last 30 years, and this was the home that he loved. He never met a stranger, and would give a helping hand to anyone he met. He will be long remembered for his strong will, huge heart, and incredible sense of humor, which remained intact until the very end.

He loved to fish, and had fished all over the country, and in Mexico. He loved to spend time with this family, and had many fun vacations with them.

He is survived by his wife, Paulette; and three daughters: Jennifer Hood of Orem; Robin Hiatt of Springville; and Shannon (Scott) Jacobsen of Temecula, CA; five grandchildren: Andrew, Amanda, DJ, Luke and Macee; two sisters: Marilyn Ferrero and Maureen Long, both of California. He was preceded in death by his parents, and by his brother, Benjamin Fergus Hood.

We love you Dad, and will forever keep you in our hearts.

Family and friends may call at the Spring Lake Ward Chapel, 12680 South Spring Lake Road, Sunday evening, January 7, 2013, from 6-8 p.m. Private family services will be held at a later date. Full military honors accorded by the American Legion Post 72 of Orem. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the St. Francis Catholic Church, 65 East 500 North, Orem, Utah 84057. The family would like to give a special thanks to Dr. Kirk Anderson, and the staff at Utah Valley Specialty Hospital, for the professional and tender care give to Doug.
