Dr. Gary M Weaver
Dr. Gary M Weaver
1951 ~ 2014
Dr. Gary M Weaver, 62, of Salem, UT, passed away on Saturday night, March 1, 2014. He was born April 4, 1951, in Logan, Utah. He touched countless others with his wisdom, songs, and love. Gary was spending time with friends and family when his big heart grew too weak and gave out.
Gary received his PhD in Counseling Psychology from Brigham Young University in 1990 and his High School Diploma from Landmark High a year later in 1991. He spent decades working with youth in a number of treatment centers and as a school psychologist for Nebo School District. Gary was currently doing volunteer work at BYU, teaching the power of spirituality in therapy using the knowledge gained through his vast life experiences. Last summer he taught a class in Spirituality in Psychotherapy at Columbia University and he felt it was one of the highlights of his life.
When Gary was 18 he went on a six week BYU survival trip that changed his life. It was on that trip that he adopted the motto: If I help others the Lord will give me everything I need. It was this motto that guided his life of service. Over the years, Gary ran over 160 survival trips in the Boulder and Escalante area of southern Utah. Through these trips he helped more than 4000 people learn about themselves and strengthen their relationship with the Lord.
As a faithful Latter-Day Saint, Gary served a two year mission to Los Angeles, CA from 1970 to 1972. He served in many callings and loved teaching the gospel and making it an important part of peoples lives.
He loved music and would often be heard singing with his sisters and parents. He started singing at a young age with his family and friends in The Melody Weavers and later with The Elk Water, Flea, and Tick jug band which started in college and still played on occasion. Gary was a virtuoso on the harmonica and the jaw harp, but his specialty was the trashcan bass.
On October 8, 1981, Gary married Wendy Chandler in the Salt Lake City Temple and they had two children. They also took in over 30 foster kids and helped many others before going their separate ways. Gary later met and fell in love with Colleen Booth the love of his life. They were married on February 20, 1998 in the Provo Temple and loved each other to the end.
Gary is survived by his wife, Colleen, four children: John Weston, Myan, Michea (Mitch) Davis, Buck (Candy) Booth, and 7 grandchildren: Devin, Chelsi, Caigen, Mecina, Sofia, Abram, and Olivia. There are also countless Weaver Boys that at one point called his house their home. He is also survived by his sisters Janine (Duane) Chase, Julie (Lee) Matheson, Madeline (Kelly) Muir and many numerous nieces and nephews. Gary is preceded in death by his parents, Ross and Marva Weaver and his brother,
